Elderly people need care and attention like babies and they express their joy similarly. You cannot fascinate them with valuable items. For complete happiness they need a few things: love, attentive treatment, presents… Not to get cold on their feet, not to get lumbago.

Since 3 years our charity Fund “Social Partnership” is taking care of more than 500 socially unprotected elderly people. Our nurses and social workers provide them every day with necessary service, medications and food. Regarding those heavy conditions, our elderly people have to live in, such type service is essential for their lives.

Miaguli Gerliani-Aprasidze is the oldest member of our Fund. She is 105 years old. She was born in 1910 and she was the witness of all those events that we learn at school, at history lessons. Miaguli is a very positive person, inspite of the fact that she overcame many hardships, she has only good memories and she doesn’t wish to talk about her heavy life. She is very proud of her origin, she speaks mostly Svanetian. Her daughter, Eteri, takes care of her. As Miaguli often says Eteri is her daughter, mother and translator.

Eteri has no own family, her mother is everything to her.

- Sometimes she shrieks, calls me: “Eteri, come quick, quick” – I run to her with dear, mother looks at me and tells me with smile: “I missed you so much, come and hug me” and we sit hugging each other.

Miaguli likes playing backgammon. When you play with her you try to make her win, but then you realize that you have a worthy opponent and you are defeated. You confess then that age is a privilege in this case.

- I would like to participate in Backgammon Tournament – says Miaguli – but whom will they “dig out” in my age category? And she laughs loudly. She discloses us the secret of her long life: in the morning – cold water, humor, backgammon, loyalty, fresh air and much physical work. That’s all.

Old age is what expects us all in the future. We do not know what we will be. Don’t forget your old people, go and see them. Don’t miss a chance to make them happy.

Please, help Miaguli and be proud that due to your kind deeds there will be one more person over 105 year old. Our gene cannot die out so easily, and the woman who went through Georgian-Abkhazian war and she was chased out from her own home by the aggressors, who did not lose her faith and hope that Georgia will be unite again, in my opinion is worth being respected and your support.
