Mom, don't die, we won't forgive you!
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
What would happen to her children? What would happen to her sick mother? Until that day Ekaterina had been the only support for everyone, she had worked, taken care of her home and her children, and her old sick parents... and suddenly one word shattered everything!
“I was going home from the hospital and tears flowed down my face. I could hardly stop myself from bursting into tears”
Ekaterina: I didn't want to go home! You know what it feels like? It's like you have something contagious... it feels different. It's like everything starts to itch and hurt... God! I was going home from the hospital and tears flowed down my face. I could hardly stop myself from bursting into tears.
- How did you tell your mother and your children about that?
Ekaterina: Oh... When I came home with a crying face, my mom said to me: "if you have "THIS" may God strike me dead, and she started crying... that's how we stood there hugging and crying. Now I blame myself - I should have gone straight to the doctor when I felt the first signs, when my breast started to hurt unbearably... Maybe we would have avoided complications ... It's easy to be wise after the event.
“I am very sorry for mom, she thinks only about us, and she is ready to bury herself”
- How did it all start?
Shorena (12 years old): I knew something bothered my mom, but she didn't say what. Her face changed, her eyes were in tears all the time. And she said she was just getting tired at work. I am very sorry for mom, she thinks only about us, and she is ready to bury herself.
Ekaterina: One year ago I felt a pain in my breast. I did not pay attention to it. Then they advised me to put cabbage leaves on it. I thought it would help, I could do with folk remedies... To be honest, I didn't even have money for a doctor. I didn't have money for the transportation either. But when pus began to come out, and the pain became unbearable, I went to the doctor.
"Now I'm half a human, there's nothing feminine left in me"
- Oh, it's hard being a woman! You never have time for yourself...
Ekaterina: you know how bad I feel now... even though I had two surgeries, my breasts were cut off and I'm not in pain anymore, I feel worthless... I get so tired even doing housework...
"Mommy, we won't let anything happen to you"
- Doesn't anyone help you?
Ekaterina: The household chores have fallen on my poor Shorena. But I can't torment her like that, so I force myself to do what I can. She does her best to help me. She does not let me do laundry in cold water. She takes care of her grandmother, gives her medications. And others just want my attention. Children need their mother's warmth, they literally "hang" on me. Perhaps they are afraid that soon I won't be able to hug them...
- What about your husband? And your father? Don’t they help you?
Ekaterina: My husband and father can't do anything around the house. That's how I live. Sometimes tears choke me, but I don't show that. I dream of getting back to work, but who needs sick people? Now it is hard to find a job even for healthy people. My parents' pension and the 400 GEL allowance are not enough for the whole family. Even for food. If my mother were healthy, it would be easier!
"Mom has terrible back pain, she could faint without painkillers..."
- What’s wrong with your mom?
Ekaterina: My mom, has some complicated disease - I can't remember the name - her bones become brittle and start to crumble. She sits all the time, sometimes she gets up, but every movement is a nightmare for her. She can even lose consciousness because of the pain. And the painkillers they prescribed to her are very expensive.
- What do you live on?
Ekaterina: On my parents’ pension and social allowance. While I was healthy, I also worked in a store. And then this happened. My husband is a laborer. Sometimes he has work - when they call him. Sometimes, we use the social canteen to not to starve to death. We only take bread there, but even that is a huge help for us. I know that children and the elderly will not go hungry. I don't even remember the last time we ate meat.
"We don't have proper beds... they're all old and falling apart"
- How can we help you? Maybe, you need treatment?
Ekaterina: Right now, my tumor is sleeping - that's what the doctors say, but I need to be monitored all the time. I must see the doctor and get tests. It's like a time bomb. The state finances all the tests for me. The only things I want to ask for are groceries and beds for my kids.
"I want me and my brother to have real boy toys"
Mago (9-year-old): Mom, please ask to bring toys for me!
- Mago, I will talk to you too, and you will tell me what you need.
Mago: talk to my sister too! And I'll tell you for my little brother.
- All right, speak for yourself and for your brother - I see he's very shy.
Mago: Right, look, he's always hiding. You won't forget what I tell you, will you? I really need toys. Me and Boria have one car for two and one dirty dog and that's it. And we need blocks, cars, a tablet, a bicycle, a TV...
"I don't know who to thank, but thanks to whoever threw this car away"
Shorena: uh, is not it too much? Auntie's getting tired of listening to you. We'd better ask for something for mom.
- Let your mom tell me about her dreams, and you tell me about yours.
Shorena: I'll tell you that I have only one dream - for my mom not to be always so sad, I want this damn cancer to never wake up again. And for myself, I do not even know what to ask. I love drawing – could you give me a painting set? Also nice shoes and clothes. I do not want them to laugh at me because of my torn clothes.
"If my mother is healthy and can work, she'll buy us candy, too"
- Don't you want a tablet or a phone?
Shorena: Oh, I can't even think about that... but it would probably be great.
Ekaterina: My children have forgotten how to dream. They don't ask for candy anymore... They know I can't buy them anything. They don't even know what meat, cheese, butter is... That hurts me so much! Are they condemned to eternal poverty?
* * *
After these words, Ekaterina started crying... and there was no point to continue our interview. Everything had already been said. This is another real family in our neighborhood trying to survive. Every new day is a new challenge for them. Being sick they can't see the doctor or buy medications. The children get nothing but bread from the social canteen, they wear torn clothes, and don't even dream of candy. And they never buy them toys - they bring them what others have already thrown away. Friends, in anticipation of Easter, we ask you not to leave this family to their fate. Let's give them joy, and God will bless our children in return!
The family needs everything. First, they need food and medications, beds and clothes, a TV, a stove, and the children need toys and a tablet.
