- Tinatin, please tell me what’s wrong your son?
Tinatin: My poor boy ... I still cannot get used that he will never be able to live a normal life. I have heard nothing optimistic from doctors for 10 years. And when my son asks me: "When will I learn to walk?" - I can hardly hold back my tears. Should I tell him the truth or lie? I don’t know. I had a difficult pregnancy. Perhaps this had an impact on his health.
- What happened?
Tinatin: My husband worked at a construction site, and suddenly he felt sick and fell. I was very nervous - I was in my third month of pregnancy, and apparently this affected the fetus. Giorgi was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.I cannot describe what happened to me! I wanted to die, just not to hear and not see all this!
We have visited countless doctors. He was operated on, it eased his condition, but he did not become able to walk. We permanently attend sessions at a rehabilitation center with various specialists, we take special developing lessons; we also work at home - sculpt, draw, talk a lot ...
- Tinatin, what is the most difficult thing in raising a sick child?
Tinatin: Everything is difficult, especially when you are permanently short of funds. Your hands are tied! It also kills me when they say that it won't work, that I'm just wasting my nerves and energy ... It kills me when they look intently. Once an old woman stopped in the street and started starring at Giorgi. He could not take that and he asked her: “Is it the first time you see a child in a wheelchair?"
The only thing that comforts for me is that he can talk, and he tell me what worries him. He can just hug me and say: "Mom I love you". I am ready to give up my life for such moments. I know that many mothers of special children dream of hearing at least one word from their children.
– What would you advise to the mothers in the same dire situation as you?
Tinatin: I want to wish all of them patience and great willpower! Let them not pay attention to strangers! Remember, my dear, our children have no one but us, and we just have to be strong! Since it was the will of the Lord that we carry this cross, He will give us the strength to carry it with pride and not lose heart!
- Tinatin, what does your spouse think about this situation? It often happens that fathers leave their families because of such problems. How did you meet him, how did you start your family?
Tinatin: He really supports me morally! He himself has a hard time. Due to constant hard work, he developed a hernia, and he cannot lift anything heavy. If he does not listen to doctors, he may also find himself in a wheelchair. Vazha always spends a lot of time with our son, plays with him, entertains him as best he can. We met each other quite by chance and soon got married. It felt like I had known him for a thousand years! He is a very kind, empathetic, caring, and attentive person. He is an orphan himself. His parents died when he was 3 months old, he doesn't even remember them. His grandmother raised him, and she also died then. Family is sacred for Vazha!
- Do your parents help you?
Tinatin: My parents are already at such an age that they need help themselves. They are old.
– Did you address anybody else for help? The local authorities, for instance?
Tinatin: The state finances Giorgi's treatment in a rehabilitation center and pays us social allowance... I don't even dare ask for more. But we have to survive somehow. We are barely making ends meet ...
– What is your family income? What’s it enough for?
Tinatin: We have 250 GEL Giorgi's pension and 200 GEL social allowance, 450 GEL per month in total. We pay 400 GEL for rent, and the rest is enough for nothing! What can 50 GEL be enough for when there is a sick child in the family? He needs diapers, medications, and basic food!
- What do you do with Giorgi at home? What's his favorite thing to do?
Tinatin: He loves to watch educational programs and cartoons, I often read him fairy tales before he goes to sleep. He also loves to attend lessons, but we were left without them because we haven’t got a computer.
- Tinatin, do you believe in the kindness of strangers?
Tinatin: Yes, but sometimes I'm afraid of them. Many of them have hurt me. Many of them do not believe in my efforts... But I don’t care about someone else's opinion. I hope that after reading this story, the people who can understand what I feel will respond!
– What is your biggest dream?
Tinatin: I only dream about my son to be healthy, at least relatively healthy! I hope that specialists will help him to improve his condition and somehow adapt him to an independent life. If only he would become able to serve himself and not be completely dependent on someone. I think with fear what will happen to him when I am gone ...
– What do you think, you need most in your home?
Tinatin: My God, it is so embarrassing to ask ... But we really need support. All our modest income goes to rent. And our sick son needs so much! Medications, diapers, proper nourishment! I would also be happy to have a stove to bake bread at home and save money. Forgive me for being so forward, but I would also like to ask you for a tablet for Giorgi so that he can attend lessons and communicate with teachers.
– Why did you decide to address us?
Tinatin: Because I saw many stories similar to mine at your page. You are simply a salvation for those parents who have no one to ask for help.
