You saved us from starving to death!

“I am so grateful to you, but I can’t express my emotions. Sorry, it seems that I forgot how to smile,” - David weeps away his tears and looks at his grandfather who fell asleep right now after taking a painkiller.

David went through so much grief, there is no need for him to explain his feelings to us. The friends of the Fund - the most understanding, empathetic and delicate - just are and will be by him forever. With all their love they supported this family - a grandson and a grandfather, who were left completely alone in this world. The important thing is a real help we managed to provide to this family and not the expectation of the emotions they show in response. But we still want for David to thaw out. We are ready to be near, to wait, support, and pray for his grandfather.

It is still hard for David to talk but he accepted our caring and is touched by it.

“We were starving, we were on the edge. Thank you for saving us!”

- David, first of all we’d like to know how you and your grandfather are? We will be very happy if our project helped you somehow.

David: It's hard for me to talk about my life. After the events that happened in recent years I am living in a mist. It feels that I am already gone. Every day I relive all this pain in my dreams... I hold the lifeless body of my three-month-old daughter and scream, pray, call, until I wake up in a cold sweat, choking with tears...  But I am responsible for my grandfather - I cannot leave him. Recently, we have had a particularly difficult time. We have been starving for a long time. I already got used to feeling hungry all the time and learned to fall asleep with this feeling. But my grandfather always asked me for something to eat, to put at least something in his mouth, he was very weak. And I couldn't give him anything, absolutely nothing. I think we would have endured only a few days if you had not come.

I only asked for food. And you gave us food, medications, and so much more. But most importantly, you saved me from starving to death! Thank you! I did not expect you to show such attention to us. I never dreamed of a refrigerator and a washing machine... You know, it is not easy to wash laundry of an elderly person in cold water every day. I managed to cope somehow. But now the laundry is washed much better and dries quickly. The food, if we have it, does not spoil - we have a new large refrigerator. God, my wife would have liked it so much...

- David, we are so happy that we managed to help you! What do you remember the most?

David: You know, neighbors helped us sometimes - someone gave us old clothes, someone brought us a loaf of bread or a bottle of milk, but it happened rarely. My grandfather and I could not even dream of such a huge help! And people who helped us are complete strangers... Now I see what happens when a lot of people learn about your misfortune. It is so important to feel that you are not alone facing your troubles! They called us saying words of support, wrote the comments on social networks to comfort us. It warmed my heart.

One woman from Italy sent us clothes and a lot of diapers for my grandfather. Can you imagine that? One lady from Batumi (unfortunately I don’t remember her name) brought us huge bags full of food! Emotions overwhelmed my grandfather! He was not even able to eat at first - he just cried. He sleeps much better when he’s full. The medications you bought for him work much better when he’s full. Previously, not a single sedative had any effect on him, apparently, they do not work on an empty stomach. I am grateful to everyone who helped us! God bless you!

David: “Home appliances became a real surprise to me. I asked only for foodstuffs, and now...”

- David, was there any response from the local authorities?

David: There was no reaction at all. The only help from the state is my grandfather’s pension - 250 GEL. We try to survive on this money from month to month.

The sick old man cannot do without medications!

- What did you feel when you received help from the friends of the Fund?

David: It seemed to me that I could not experience other emotions, but pain and despair. But I was wrong. There is kindness in this world! I am responsible for my grandfather now. I addressed you for his sake. This man is my only family in this huge and cruel world. You can see how much I look like my grandfather.

He was always a hard-working, honest man, he helped others. Did he know what awaited him? He does not deserve such an old age...

I really hoped that there would be caring people who would not pass by my grief. I read a lot about how you help those in need. But getting such a huge help was something I did not expect, and it amazed and shocked me. The food and medications will certainly be enough for my grandfather for the next few days, he will not starve. What else do I need to feel calm? Nothing! Thank you for being next to me - for the first time in these years I do not feel so alone. I know that the whole country raised money for me and my grandfather, and everyone helped us as much as they could, taking away from themselves, their family. Thank you! May God protect you!

A long-awaited and necessary gift - a new corset. The pain is not so terrible when you have it.

- David, we will not leave you, we are with you! What else can we do for you, what do you especially need right now?

David: I dream of taking my grandfather out for a walk in the fresh air. He completely stopped walking, he stays within four walls and waits for death. If he had a wheelchair, I would walk with him all day! Diapers and food are also an ongoing problem. The pension is not enough for anything, and I cannot leave my grandfather alone. So, we spend 24 hours together. Sometimes we look at each other with such pain, pity, and love, and we understand that only we stayed with each other. But now I feel that you are with us. Please, don’t leave us! It would be hard for me to lose you after I have met you all. I don’t want to lose anyone anymore.

Friends, from the once large and friendly Mzhavanadze family, only grandfather and grandson remained in this world. They huddle in a tiny room; they live in a dire need and suffer from loneliness and misery. 250 GEL of pension is not enough even for food, and a sick old man also needs medications and diapers. The poor old man did not go outside for several years, because he could not move. He wants to breathe fresh air so much, but he cannot do without a wheelchair. Please, let’s help David and his grandfather. There is not someone else’s grief, we can’t let these people starve to death! Now we are together, and this friendship and support will not last just for one day.
