Maybe happiness for you is something immeasurable, indescribable, unattainable. It is sometimes so difficult for us to explain simple things in words. But little eight-year-old Demuri knows exactly what happiness is. This is a house, dumplings, and a bike! He has only one and very simple dream - to live like other children do.

Project completed!

When my children get a little older, I will tell them about the kindness of Georgian people - their compatriots! And when they grow up, they themselves will give happiness to those children who have little reason to rejoice!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

“Mom, mommy! Look how many things they brought! It’s so cool!” - 12-year-old Magda shouted joyfully when she saw huge boxes...

“Merabiko likes boxes of porridge so much, he doesn’t let them out of his hands! I imagine how he will like them when he tries the porridge!

"I can't wait until we install it"

And the younger brothers of Magda - 8-year-old Demuri and 6-year-old Bezhan are spinning around the TV: “Come on, connect it, we will watch cartoons... I want to watch Tom and Jerry, and what about you, Bezhan?” Bezhan nods to him. If only they could connect the TV as soon as possible - he and his brother will watch anything - a fairy tale, a cartoon, even an information program!

“Hurry up, switch it on! I can’t wait!”

I rejoice with them. Together with them I want to thank you, friends of our Fund and our countless subscribers. Thank you for brightening up gray routine of one more family. This is undoubtedly your merit!

But sadness is overcoming me along with this joy: there, in the highland villages, in the era of the technological revolution and the Apple, people dream of a TV as a magic box. They never saw a washing machine! Merab and Bezhan dream of a phone with “a touch screen” to attend online classes during a pandemic or heavy snow.

The Shavidze family, which has five children, lives in extreme poverty. It is difficult for mother - Mariam - to keep her kids. She cannot work because she has 2-year-old Merab and 8-month-old Giorgi at home. Father - Merab - despite his semi-paralyzed state, still managed to earn a living, but now? He had his fingers amputated and...

Our Fund published a post about the Shavidze family on November 15.

- Mariam, how your life has changed after the Fund published an article about your family?

Mariam: First of all, I want to say that you made us very happy... You brought us so many gifts - appliances, sweets, food, cereals - after all, all this is a luxury for us. We had no money even to buy a pacifier for a child… Only if someone gave it to us… We are immensely grateful to the faithful friends of the Fund who took care of us… God bless you!

“If Merabiko says “kata, kata” it means that he likes it, and he is happy”

- Is it all useful to you? We've tried to make things a little easier for you...

Mariam: Useful? Are you kidding? Children dreamed of TV! When I see my children so happy, even in such cloudy weather the sun shines on me. They haven't had so many sweets in a long time.

When he eats yummy, his eyes shine

My younger ones, Merab and Giorgi, have porridge. At least for a while they won't go to bed hungry.

“We have so many sweets and cookies at home as if Santa came to us”

We used to be "invisible people” with our problems and sorrows before you published the post about us. And now a lot of people got worried - they came to us in such snow, and generously endowed us.

 - As far as I understand, you have made many new friends. Who visited you? Who do you particularly remember?

Mariam: I don’t want to miss anyone because I am immensely grateful to everyone. I'll start with Mrs. Maya Chkhenkeli. This woman should live in good health for a hundred years, she’s such a wonderful person. She brought beds for us. Can you imagine, we all slept on the same couch all together?! She brought us a bag of potatoes, flour, sugar, sunflower oil, pasta - a lot of groceries. She brought clothes for children… She brought Bezhan a bicycle and a cake for his birthday.

I am immensely grateful to Mr. Mamuka, unfortunately, I do not know his last name, he was from Kutaisi. He brought us lots of gifts too: foodstuffs - chicken, sweets, lemonade. He gave a bicycle to my second son - Demuri. He bought the children brand new, warm jackets. It's so cold here... Very often I sent them to school in turn, because not everyone had warm clothes. We endured hard days...

Merab (Maya's husband joins our conversation): We do not care about ourselves, if only the children were happy! Maya (addressing his wife), don't forget to mention that wonderful family who visited us in the snowfall, along with their little child...

Maya: How can I forget them. Even the snowfall did not stop them... May the Lord bless this family. May all their kindness and mercy, which they showed in relation to ours, and I am sure that to many other families, return to them a hundredfold. They brought us a lot of clothes, bought stationery for the children. We couldn't even buy school notebooks for our children... And they brought groceries: potatoes, butter, meat... Lord, it's been a long time since my children ate meat.

Merabi: Two women came from Zestaponi with gifts: butter, sour cream, baked goods packed in a box. They gave children toys too. And they brought Mariam household cleaners. It is very difficult for us to buy household cleaners - everything has become so expensive ...

I won’t forget the three men, I don’t know their names or where they came from… They came by minibus, brought us firewood and kitchenware. So many people bothered themselves for our sake. I love you all so much! Your support made us so happy!

 - Merab, did the local authorities respond, inquired about your situation?

Merab: No one responded. I am a category II disabled person, but I should have a category I of disability, and they don’t entitle it to me. I am bedridden, my one side is completely paralyzed. I cannot move without assistance. I can’t go to one agency after another. I get medications for free - I have no problems with that, but it’s not just about medications… My children do not have enough food, and this is my sadness and anxiety. I lie watching how they suffer, and I can do nothing about that. If it weren’t for you and kind people, we all would have died… It’s cold at home, the back part is burned down, the windows are broken, it’s very hard for us in winter.

 - Could I please talk to your children?

Merab: Yes, of course. They are very happy and will chirp like birds. (smiles)

 - Guys, your parents told me that you got a lot of gifts. What did you like the most?

Magda: I was very happy with the shoes that Aunt Maya gave me, I was very happy with the washing machine, but we cannot install it. I also liked the TV a lot, I watch TV series. Because people in the series live beautifully, and there is always a happy ending...

Demuri: I was happy about everything, but most of all - about the TV. When I grow up big, I will also help everyone, teacher!

Magda (laughs): What "teacher"? You are talking to journalist, not a teacher!

We all laugh.

Now, Bezhan joins our conversation.

Bezhan: How are you? – a little first-grader asks me sweetly – I, too, was happy with everything. I liked a lot of cookies that you brought us. I'll take them to school and treat my friends.

- Do you have many friends, Bezhan?

Bezhan: Yes. I love going to school. Sometimes, I was unable to go there, but now I will go there all the time.

 - Mariam, I’m sure, you were very happy with the help of the friends of the Fund, but you still need so much: your husband noted that there are no windows in the house, and you need a lot of firewood, you have an extremely cold winter here...

Mariam: True. It is hard for me to take care of my husband and five children in the conditions we live in now. It's even hard to live day and night waiting for someone to lend you a helping hand or not. But what should I do?!

I remember how few years ago, Demuri passed out in kindergarten.

 - How had it happened?

They said that he got poisoned by something, I don’t know... The child did not come into contact. We had to transport him by mobile resuscitation vehicle. But I had no money for it. Then my mother helped me - she borrowed money from neighbors. We still could not raise enough to cover the clinic costs. I was very hungry all the time. I prayed to Saint George for the salvation of my son. Like this: Saint George, give me the strength to help my son, and I will raise as many children as God gives me... That’s why, I named my youngest son Giorgi. The Church of St. George looks at our village.  I promised the saint then to donate money too, but it didn’t work out in any way, due to lack of funds... I just go up there and light candles every Sunday. Maybe someday I'll be able to keep my promise.

 - Maya, Magda said that you can't connect a washing machine, why?

Mariam: We don't even have water - we collect it from the well and use it that way. You can probably imagine how hard is it!

 - Is there any solution?

Mariam: Pump and tank. Which we, probably, won’t be able to buy for a hundred years ... But I want it so much! How much easier our life would be if water came from a tap. You gave us this wonderful thing (points to the washing machine), It would be so great if it spun and made my work twice as easy.

“Once we install it, I won’t have to wash with my hands at night anymore.”

***

Mariam does laundry at night. She barely sleeps. It is cold at home - some windows don’t have glass. There is always a shortage of firewood, due to the lack of an appropriate amount. They always have little firewood because they never have sufficient funds. Kids dream of having a hand-swipe phone (that's what they call it) so they can attend online classes and keep up with their studies. I will add that the only means of communication in this family is Mariam's phone, and even that is broken. It is very hard for us to contact them. I called them to arrange an interview with them for several days to no avail. And 12-year-old teenager Magda dreams of having a wardrobe. She wants her clothes not to be stuffed into bags, as they are now, but to be beautifully stored in the closet, like other, ordinary girls have.

And I, again, hope for you, our faithful friends! I know that responsiveness and the desire to do good will unite us again, and we will once again support the large Shavidze family.
