llness does not request permission to come. It comes to a family bringing fear, pain and uncertainty. Every mother knows that a child's health is the supreme happiness; for this reason it is extremely hard to wake up every morning seeing that your child "is different".

There has not been a single calm day in the life of Maya Baratashvili for about 11 years. Her main tragedy is 10-year old son, Anzor Davituri, a pleasant looking boy with curly hair, with in-born epilepsy and ICP.

When Anzor was born, and it was in Akhalgorskiy Region, there were no signs of the horrible illness. However, a couple of months later, first convulsions emerged... And then there was the August War, expulsion from their own home and serious aggravation of the child's health.

"We took shelter at a neighbour's apartment in Zages town near Tbilisi and took our child to the hospital. There we were told that the boy has the most nasty form of epilepsy, but the doctors could not give an exact diagnosis. They told that they had never met such of form of the illness before, but they prescribed some medicines. We went to another clinic. There we were told the same. They sent the diagnosis abroad for verification and received an answer that the prescription was wrong, and certainly asked for money for transportation, inspection and treatment. And where could we find them?" – says Maya Baratashvili. 

These wide open eyes are in fact "closed eyes". Little Anzor does not see, does not hear and does not speak. He is unable to walk; sometimes he utters some unclear sounds; he does not communicate, does not recognize anyone and often rushes to fresh air. The little boy does not feel this world, he merely exists.

He has frequent and very strong attacks. Sometimes he wakes up at night, jumps out of bed and falls down, hits his head against the floor; sometimes he falls with his face down and sometimes his teeth even enter the wooden flooring. The whole family, including his 7-year old brother Lesko, jumps up and starts holding his brother in convulsions, as he can die if not stopped. The attacks can happen any time of the day, for this reason his mother, grandfather and grandmother are in constant stress and look hard after him. And such is every day!

Maya cannot work as there is nobody to bedsit her ill child. 57-year old granddad Georgiy has tuberculosis, and 58-year old grandma Alexandra has an oncological disease. This family is very friendly and united. The grandpa and grandma help Maya as much as they can, taking care of the children, but the heart bleeds for these people, this poverty, helplessness and miserable condition.

The child's pension and social allowance is hardly enough for bread and simple medicines for Anzor, granny and grandpa. They do not have their own house and home and have to live cooped up in tight premises, among grey peeling walls, holed floor and dilapidated old furniture. These people survive a long-lasting crisis which is otherwise called "life on the edge"!

Dear friends, give God mercy to this family with as much as you can, turn their existence into a life! They need everything: medicines, food and household stuffs. They will be sincerely grateful to you for a presented wardrobe or beds, chairs or a dresser. And little Anzor needs help most of all! His family does not have any financial possibilities for the child's treatment, and the nasty form of epilepsy can cause cardiovascular diseases, lowered oxigen content in the body and... death. You have a chance to make an impact on the child's life! It is an ill child! Do not postpone it! As it can bee too late. Now is the very moment when you are asked for help!

Anzor is an affectionate child. If he is caressed on his head, he will give you a "response": he will hold his head against your hand and close his wide open eyes. And... on January 21st will be his 11th birthday!
