God forbid anyone to experience every single day what goes through this poor good old woman, the mother of Ira Khergiani. She is 83. The soul asks for peace. But a devil has got into her beloved daughter, 40-year old Matrona. It's not a disease. Doctors can't even give it a name. She is mad and dangerous, both for herself and for others! 

The conversation with the old mother was very difficult for us. She spoke in a whisper, and all the time went after her daughter, who did not sit still for a second…

 – Ira, tell us about your life. How did you end up in such a horrible situation?

Ira: I'm from the Svaneti Region, Mestia. I got married not for love and too late! I really wanted a child... and when my daughter was born, I felt like the happiest mother in the World. She was the first beauty in the village and a clever girl! And what a sweetheart! And so it lasted for 17 years. I began to dream about grandchildren, when suddenly Matrona got full of devilment. She suddenly became aggressive. The favorite of the whole village (the old woman cried bitterly) became dangerous for people. And my husband and I had to move to a deserted place. We moved to Tsalenjikha, away from people and closer to Tbilisi and to the psychiatric clinic.

 – And where is your husband now?

Ira: Last year, he died... Poor thing! Now I am alone with my daughter... And I have almost no strength left to overcome the devil. You know how scary it is? Don't think that I'm afraid of my daughter, no, it's just scary to realize that the child you gave birth to can hurt you. She can hit and not understand what she did... God how awful…

– Don't you want us to go on?

Ira: It's ok. I'll calm down a bit. But people should know how evil fate can be! The most difficult thing in our situation is that when Matrona realizes her condition, she begs us to cure her. She suffers so much for hurting me. But this is only when the Evil Spirit leaves her in peace. And then... Help me kill the Devil in her. We need soothing medications or priests who know how to get rid of Satan. I don't want to "go to God" and leave my daughter to evil spirits. After every attack, she confesses to me how much she loves me. Lord, save and have mercy! Can you imagine the struggle inside her: she tries to hit me, crying and shouting "Mom I don't want to beat you, mom I don't want to scare you, give me the medicine! Give it to me, please! I love you so much." Where can I get my medicine? There is no money even for food!

– What kind of medicine does she need? And how do you make ends meet? What do you eat?

Ira: We need sedatives... Some expensive ones! I don't know how to buy them. And the hardest part is when I can't make food for her. She's like an animal walking around the house. She can put raw rice in her mouth and chew it, then she can nibble corn and raw pasta. I can barely pull it off. Then she gets even more aggressive and starts biting me... My God, my God! Let all the children on Earth have peace of mind.

– Ira, what can we do for you, how can we alleviate your suffering?

Ira: Help me, my dear, with food and medicines... Maybe you also can us help fix the roof. During rain or wind, the Matron is very afraid, yelling and crying. Water pours into the house and the wood falls off. The house is very old, I'm afraid that one day it will collapse!
