Mother is seriously ill, but despite her terrible pains, faints and injuries she prays only for her little daughter:

“Lord, please save my Khatuna! My 7-year-old angel needs medications, she is in pain, she cries so bitterly! My heart is breaking!

I appeal to all mothers and fathers of Georgia, please, pray for my daughter, please help to save her! Only help of God and your kindness would let my little one survive! Friends of the Fund, you are my last hope!” - Khatuna’s mother says.

The large socially disadvantaged family of the Baneteshvilis raises 4 children, two of them are seriously ill – 7- year- old Khatuna and 14 –year-old Merabi.

The children sleep on the floor, they live in utter poverty and terrible conditions. They are deprived even of the most basic things: beds, food, diapers, medications. Let’s help them together, friends of the Fund!

“You are my last hope! Help to save my daughter!” - with these words 38-year-old Zinaida, mother of four children appeals to all her compatriots and all people, who live in our generous and sunny Georgia.

During our whole conversation 7-year-old Khatuna kept crying. This little one is seriously ill, she suffers cerebral palsy, epilepsy, microcephaly! Poor little tormented angel. She can neither walk, nor talk, nor even drink water by herself! She only cries. She cries all the time. And her poor mother does not close her eyes all night long, fearing that another epileptic attack may simply kill her child!

What should the miserable woman do when she is trying with all her might to save her beloved daughter, knocking on all doors, but the authorities just slam them in front of her nose with no mercy?! Where to run? Where to beg for help? Only the kindness of caring people is her hope!

There are three more children besides Khatuna, who need her care and food - 3-year-old Roin, 14-year-old Merab and 16-year-old Nino.

Being constantly in fear about her younger daughter, the poor woman is unable to think either about her elder son, who also needs medical care, or about herself. She is seriously ill as well!

Generous and noble Georgia never leaves her compatriots in trouble. Together, we will always help those who are in trouble. The Lord is merciful, He has entrusted us the fate of this baby, because He knows we will never let her die!

- Zinaida, why did you address us?

Zinaida: I don’t know what to start with. My younger daughter Khatuna is seriously ill. She is 7 years old, but she cannot walk and talk. She cannot even eat or drink by herself. That's just terrible! When she was born, I was told she’s absolutely healthy. But the trouble popped up unexpectedly. My younger children Khatuna (7-year-old) and Roin (3-year-old) were born in Germany. When the girl was 1,6 years old, she was given a routine vaccination.

Since this moment all this nightmare has started. She had fever for a long time, she did not sleep and cried all time long. Her diagnosis sounded like a conviction: cerebral palsy, epilepsy, microcephaly!

We were in a foreign country and had nobody there to ask for help. Doctors looked very skeptically at us, and I suppose that they treated Khatuna improperly.

Hoping that my daughter might be saved in her homeland, we returned to Georgia, where they would help us to put my girl on her feet.

Most of all, it hurts me that it is really possible to help her, but this requires funds, and where can I get them?

- What is the most difficult thing when raising a sick child?
Zinaida:
Absolutely everything is difficult! You should keep an eye on them all the time. My daughter is crying all the time, and I cannot always understand the reason ... She has severe epileptic attacks and I am in fear all the time! The attack might happen at night, therefore I cannot sleep, I listen my little girl breathing.

- What would you advise to mothers who are in the same dire situation as you?

Zinaida: I want to wish them patience and strength! Never lose hope and trust in God. Who, if not we, can put our children on their feet?

- How exactly can we help you at the moment?

Zinaida: There are rehabilitation programs for such children in Tbilisi. For instance, Vojta therapy, hippotherapy, hydriatic procedures in Ujarma. I am pretty sure all them work, there are many means to help my daughter. But we have no money at all! Sometimes I just toast some bread for the children because we have nothing else to eat. One massage costs 60 GEL and the state does not fund it, and we cannot afford that. Only Khatuna needs 500 GEL per month for medications, I am not saying about myself and my elder son Merabi.

Do you and Merabi have health problems too?

Zinaida: Merabi (14-year-old) has autism and cerebral ischemia. He is two years behind the school program, and he needs help of a psychologist. However, it costs 600 GEL, it’s an incredible amount for us.

I gave up on myself a long time ago, I have a whole set of ailments: scoliosis, gastritis, colitis, high blood pressure. I need thyroid surgery. I don't even want to think about it. The only thing that worries me is that I have started losing consciousness quite often, and my children need me so much ... I need to have a medical examination, and MRI scan, I appealed to the City Hall and the local government for financing, but they refused.

Zinaida, tell me about you husband, where did you meet each other?

Zinaida: I lived in Russia for five years, and when I came back to Tbilisi, I met Temuri soon. He lived next door. We liked each other. At that time, I didn't make any plans at all, but soon we got married. I never regret about it. My husband helps me with everything. However, no matter how hard he tried, he never managed to find a permanent job. He takes any job, doing his best to earn as much as he can, but it’s pittance.

- Does anybody help you? Parents or relatives?

Zinaida: My mother does her best to help us. But she is ill as well - I inherited my thyroid disease from her. She works as a cleaner at school and you can imagine how much she earns. But she still tries to support us. Sometimes she brings food, or buys stuff for the children. Our parents are very old, they themselves need help.

Have you ever thought that such misfortune would happen to you?

Zinaida: Any girl dreams to find her prince and to be happy. I met my prince, but the children’s’ illnesses...I would not imagine it even in a terrible nightmare. We went to Germany to work and we were doing pretty well there. But for the sake of our daughter we returned back. We planned to earn some money in Germany which would help us to get on our feet upon our return to Georgia. But as you see, fate had its own plans.

- We are so sorry! And did you address anybody for help? The local government, for instance?

Zinaida: Sure. It’s what I’m doing all the time - running around and writing letters to various authorities. But with no results. The office finances medications for 1 month, once in four month, the City Hall – quarterly. It’s no reason to appeal to them for anything more. They just reject.

- What do you believe in? In what do you see the salvation?

Zinaida: My salvation is in Christianity. I trust God more than doctors. My older son was born premature, he was only 1.700 kilograms and he spent 3 months in intensive care. Then the doctors told me that he would never be able to walk or talk. But, as you see, their forecasts were wrong. I believe that the Lord gives everything by prayer, therefore, I keep taking little Khatuna to all the holy places of Georgia.

- Do you believe in the kindness of strangers?

Zinaida: Yes, of course! Everyone has moments of despair. Sometimes when I think that the situation is completely hopeless, someone will pop up to bring food or diapers

- Do you children go to school and kindergarten?

Zinaida: We failed to put the younger one, Roin (3-year-old) to kindergarten. We are still on queue. There were no vacancies available and we did not manage to register him. He is a very smart boy - the Lord has rewarded us for all our suffering. The eldest Nino (16 years old) also makes me very happy, she is a talented girl, she speaks 5 languages:Georgian, Russian, German, English, Kurdish, she can draw well, she is quite promising. Merabi (14-year-old) due to his health condition cannot study well, he lags behind in mental development, but dreams of playing basketball. Khatuna is my pain. She is unable to do anything by herself, even to drink water.

- What do your children eat? What is their everyday diet?

Zinaida: They cannot see porridge and pasta anymore. But what can I do? In a social canteen they only give bread. We did not manage to get food coupons. Sometimes I just toast some bread, and that’s all our food for the whole day.

Is it your apartment?

Zinaida: Yes, at least we do not have t to pay any rent. Thank God! Otherwise we would end up in the street. We have one and half rooms here, 47 sq.m. in total. You see how we live. We sleep on the floor and we are extremely short of space. We need a new washing machine - the old one is good for nothing, so I often have to wash by hands. But I have 4 children...

I’d like to talk to you children, if it’s possible. Nino, you are the eldest, let’s start with you. Tell me a little bit about you. What is your favorite subject at school? What are your hobbies? Have you already decided what you want to be?

Nino (16-year-old) I like to learn so much. My favorite subjects are: music, art history, English, sports, and biology.

I want to become an actress or TV presenter. If I fail, I’d rather be a psychologist then. This is also an interesting profession, and, I think, I can easily contact with people. I can understand a person at a glance. I like reading books and watching films, my favorite novel is Harry Potter and its screen version.

How do you imagine your future family? What should your future husband be like? How many children will you have?

Nino (16-year-old): I think the main thing in a family is trust and understanding. But it’s too early to think about that - I want to learn and acquire a profession. I dream of adopting a child from an orphanage and taking care of it. It would also be great to raise twins, a girl and a boy!

- Have you got many friends?

Nino (16-year-old): Yes, but my mother does not let me visit them for too long. I have good relations with everyone, I can't really single out anyone.

- What about you, Merab? Do you have a best friend?

Merab (14-year-old) Yes! It’s Daniel, my classmate. We both like basketball and pizza, we study in the same class.

- Do you like basketball? Do you want to become a professional player?

Merab (14-year-old) I'm dreaming about it! But the basketball school is far from us and the lessons there cost a lot. My mother has no money at all. My sister and me dream of a bicycle, at least one for two of us.

- What are you dreaming about, Roin?

Roin (3-year- old): About a tractor, ma’am! And an airplane! I had one, but it broke down. I love tractors, airplanes and cars. It’s so cool, vroom-vroom!

Do you like the cartoons or fairy tales?

Roin (3-year old): I like to watch cartoons about Mister Bin, he is so funny!

- Roin, who do you love most of all in the world?

Roin (3-year old): Mother… and sister... both sisters! And brother, and father, I love them all!

- You are a wonderful boy! I have some more questions to your mother.

Zinaida, what’s the income of your family? What’s it enough for?

Zinaida: Our monthly income is about 600 GEL. Social allowance, large family allowance, Khatuna’s pension. But it is not enough even for medications and diapers! I am not speaking about food.

- What is your biggest dream?

Zinaida: To put my little girl on her feet! To see how she walks and talks! I live only for that and pray the Lord for that. I am ready to give my life for the health and well-being of my children, like any mother.

- At the moment, the most important thing for you is to be helped with the Khatuna’s rehabilitation, right?

Zinaida: Yes, of course! Look, how beautiful she is, a real angel! This pain in my heart does not fade... I am ready for anything, just to put my baby on her feet. A thought that there is a chance to help her, but I just have no money for that, kills me!

- Why did you decide to address us?

Zinaida: I appealed for your help several years ago. You helped me with diapers, food and medications. I am very grateful for that! Now I need your help again. I need it so much! Please, help me to put my little daughter on her feet. You and the generous friends of your Fund are my last hope.
