“Pain stabs me again and again ... And every step is like torture ...” - says Teona, mother of 5-year-old Demetre and 14-year-old Luka. Her eyes are full of tears and inconsolable despair. "Everything I love hangs in the balance ... Doctors have not been able to diagnose me for more than a year, and we have already spent absolutely everything on consultations, tests, examinations, and there is still no end to this ... Oh woe, woe!" Teona raised her eyes to the sky, and tears streamed down her cheeks. “Mommy, I won't give you to anyone, ever,” says 5-year-old Demetre and hugs his mom tightly. What is multiple sclerosis? Teona answers this way: "Tomorrow, when I wake up, I don't know if I will remember that these are my children ..."

“I know you have many, many friends, and I beg all the friends of the Fund to pray for me so that death does not come to our house and does not take away mommy from my sons,” Teona says.

“It all started when I felt something like an electric shock ... First the left arm began to shake involuntarily, then the right arm ... The disease progresses very fast. Now I can barely walk and talk, - says the unfortunate woman. - And I'm only 33 years old! I need to raise my sons and take care of them, but it happened so that I need care myself! "

In the depth of despair, the poor woman addressed our Fund. She has nowhere else to seek for support. And she was not mistaken, because we always lend a helping hand and never leave our neighbor in trouble, friends!

- Teona, please, tell us what misfortune brought you to us?

Teona: We lived like all ordinary families do. But one year ago, my life turned into a real nightmare. I started having health problems, and the worst thing is that I don't know what is happening to me, and what to do...

- Can you give more details?

Teona: I used to be an absolutely healthy person. Last October, my hands began to shake. First, only the left one, and then both ... It became difficult for me to do even the simplest housework. And my Demetre (5-year-old) is still quite a child, he is to be looked after all the time. I went to a neurologist, he said that it was a neurosis, and prescribed me some pills. But they did not work. I visited various specialists. One said that I should take an MRI scan, another said it was because of the nerves and would soon pass, the third ... Does it matter? I'm getting worse, medications don't help. I can hardly move and talk, the trembling stops only when I lie down. Or I sit, supporting my head so that my neck is fixed. I’ve become completely incapacitated ... (Cries.)

- What is the general prognosis of doctors? Diagnosis? Did they prescribe you any treatment?

Teona: Since antidepressants did not work, doctors are trying now to determine the cause of my disease by an exclusion method. I had a lot of examinations, I passed a bunch of tests, they took an MRI scan. The worst thing was to hear that I have signs of multiple sclerosis! It’s a verdict, you know. It's scary to even repeat it aloud ... But another specialist disproved this version. The scan showed that there is inflammation both of the brain and the bone marrow. The doctors still cannot say what it is and how to deal with it... All tests are sent to Germany, it costs a lot of money, and we have already exhausted all the resources ...

- Do you only need help with your treatment at the moment?

Teona: You know, my children really need me. Luka, the eldest (14-year-old), is in the awkward age now. Demetre (5-year-old) is still a little child... And I am completely incapacitated, I need care myself...

Actually, we have never lived richly. But at least we didn't starve. You see by yourself, the house is old, the roof is leaking, everything is old, but what can we do?

My husband used to work for the Nikora company, and we were getting through somehow... But now he does not work because of the pandemic, and there isn’t even any temporary job. But even if it were, it would be impossible now to leave me alone with the children. I am myself like a little child, can neither tidy up nor cook...

– Does anybody help you? Parents or relatives?

Teona: My mother lives in Poti, she is a pensioner, she tries to help as much as she can ... My sister has her own family and little children ... My father had gangrene, and he died 17 years ago... As for my husband's parents, his mother died of cancer for 9 years back, and his father lives with us. He is 71 years old, he has high blood pressure and a lot of other ailments... Only my husband's sister lives nearby. She is married, has children, and they are experiencing hard times themselves, but she does not leave us unattended. She comes to tidy up and to cook dinner ...

- Is it your own house?

Teona: This is the house of my husband's parents. At the time when it was built, it was built to last ... But you know, a private house needs permanent care, and this requires a lot of money. The roof is leaking, the walls are crumbling ... But what can we do? We have no time for this now...

- On what means do you live now, Teona?

Teona: Our only stable income is the social allowance, 40- GEL food coupons and also my father-in-law's pension - 250 GEL, but he himself needs medications all the time... I constantly need money for my tests... But how to choose between the food for the children and my treatment? They need nutritious food ... But first of all, they need their mom to be safe and sound. Everyone needs their mom...

– Teona, how did you meet your husband?

Teona: We’ve known each other since childhood, and we got married when we were 18 years old... We were very young, we were in love, and it seemed then that nothing was impossible for us... But do you see how it turned to be? I could not imagine that at 33 I would become completely helpless and my 14-year-old son would have to serve me a glass of water... (Cries.)

- We are so sorry! Did you address anybody for help? The local government, for instance?

Teona: Since no one here can understand what is happening to me, all tests are sent to Germany. In such cases, the state refuses to provide any financial support ... We asked for help everyone who could help ... Friends, relatives ... We owe everyone ...

– Do you believe in the kindness of strangers?

Teona: Of course, I do... Actually, I believe that the world stands on kindness ... Your Fund unites kind people, gives them the opportunity to rally helping their neighbors...

- How did you learn about our Fund, why did you decide to address us?

Teona: Actually, I learned from the Internet ... And I also heard a lot of good things about Mr. Leonid here, in Kobuleti. I know that the founder of your Fund loves Georgia very much ... Then I came across your posts on Facebook ... You’ve helped a lot of unfortunate people ... And your Fund has so many good friends! It's just wonderful, that you do godly deeds, Lord bless you for this!

– In what do you see the salvation? Do you believe in God?

Teona: We are Orthodox Christians, I used to go to church quite often, but due to my illness I only pray at home now. I believe that the Lord will help me to get on my feet for the sake of my children...

- Tell me about them, please.

Teona: Luka is already quite an adult, he feels pity on me and helps me with everything. He can look after his little brother or warm up the dinner. And he studies very well, he even writes poetry and stories. I'm so proud of him! Demetre is still quite a baby, he hasn’t even had a chance to go to the kindergarten because of this coronavirus. There are no kids in the neighborhood, but he is very sociable and he loves to play - so he is bored...

– What do your children eat? What is their everyday diet?

Teona: Fried or boiled potatoes are our main dish... Thank God, the children love it and never refuse to eat it. Fried eggs or pasta as well... That's our “diverse” menu ...

– Can I talk to your boys, please? Luka, tell me about yourself. How do you study, what are your hobbies? Have you decided yet where you will go after graduating from school?

Luka (14 years old): I will become a famous writer! My favorite subject is Georgian language and literature .... I enjoy reading, and writing too... Would you like to read it?

  - That would be just wonderful! Do you help your mom?

Luka: Yes, of course! Mom needs to lie down, because she is sick. I do my best not to bother her, I take Demetre into the yard, play with him, put him to bed ... I really want Mommy to be healthy...

- Does Demetre obey you? Is he naughty?

Luka: He is obedient ...

Demetre (5-year-old): Yes, I'm a good boy!

- And what do you like to play most, Demetre?

Demetre: I love playing ball with Luka! We always have fun together. I’m sorry mommy is lying all the time ... She is sick ... And I want her to walk and play with us too!

- What are you dreaming about?

Demetre: I want my mommy to be healthy, and I also want a lot of toys and chocolates!

- And you, Luka, what are you dreaming about?

Luka: I want my mom to be healthy...

- She will definitely get well! Maybe anything else? Tell me, don't be shy!

Luka: I really need a computer to study ... We are studying online now, and it is very inconvenient to do it by the phone ...

- Teona, what are you dreaming about?

Teona: I am dreaming of getting back on my feet, being close to my dear children ... I want to be an independent, full-fledged woman again, to take care of my family. The disease hit me like a thunderbolt ... Believe me, it's scary to feel yourself helpless! My family needs me, and I want to be by them!
