If strangers came up to me and asked my child if he likes ice cream, and he would answer that he loves ice cream more than his mom and dad, I would immediately die of grief...

Five-year-old little Barbara does not hesitate to say that. And not because she has a bad mom. Her mom is the best, like all other mothers. But it turns out that hunger and the lack of even the simplest sweets that Barbara’s friends enjoy in front of Barbara and her sisters change all values.

Doesn't their dad Beka want his four angels, his beauties - Barbara, Nyako, Lile, Nitsa - to have the most delicious food, the most beautiful dresses, the coolest toys and the most comfortable home? Barbara thinks he doesn't want to. And if he wants, why doesn't he bring it? And she takes offense at him, believing that she does not get enough attention.

And their dad works like hell in a field in the sun all day long, to bring at least some penny, he does his best to find some part-time jobs, because six people cannot survive on 550 lari of social allowance. That is only enough to prevent them from turning their toes up. And mother Natia must be a liar and a magician to come up with how to make dinner out of nothing, out of air. Or give her children noodles again saying that it’s delicious.

This is how Natia and Beka live in despair and sadness because they are unable to cope, they cannot change anything. And their little ones walk around with pouty lips and resentments in their little hearts.

Are these ice cream lovers going to be left without tasty food again today?

- Natia, what is the main problem of your family at the moment?

Natia: Social allowance is not enough even for food. This is our main problem. We are unable to keep the family. My girls are deprived of absolutely everything: they are constantly malnourished; they dream of toys... Just look at what I have to put on them! My husband is constantly looking for work, he takes any part-time job, just to bring home something. He plows, he sows... He spends the whole day working in the sun, but they pay just pennies. You know it yourself how difficult it is to find a job now.

The children have not been anywhere farther than their yard, they have not seen anything

- So, the girls are lucky to have such a dad! How did you meet your future husband?

  Natia: I used to work in a restaurant, and he worked there as well. He was such a good boy, so helpful and hardworking that it was impossible not to fall in love with him. I can say, we fell a spark between us. Then we started a family. We thought that we would work, but we were left unemployed because of the pandemic, and it became so hard to live. We've been together for six years now. God gave us four beautiful daughters: little Nitsa is nine months old, Lile is two years old, Nyako recently turned three, and the eldest Barbara is five.

- So, you still need a son.

  Natia: We really dreamed of a big family, but now we are in such a situation that we will certainly not be able to have one more child. Only formula for Nitsa costs 250 GEL per month. These formulas rise in price every day, as if they were made of gold. Or they are created only for the rich. What should we do? Not to give birth to children?

- What are you talking about! If everyone thinks so, then soon there will be no people left in Georgia. But, actually, the state does not act in any way to support large families.

Natia: I'll tell you the numbers now! Allowance for large families is 150 GEL per month for four children. This is one GEL per child per day! This is ridiculous! What can you buy for one lari today? A half kilogram of pasta? So, there will be a generation grown on pasta.

For this wonderful child to grow up, you need 250 GEL per month to buy formula. And the entire income of this family (four children and two adults) is only 550 GEL

  - What else do your children eat?

  Barbare (5-year-old): They never give us ice cream and cheese

  - And what do they give you?

  Barbare: My favorite dish is French toast! Write down the recipe in your notebook, I'll tell it you now!

  - Okay, I'm ready.

  Barbare: Go to the chicken and ask for one egg, break it and beat it with a fork, beat it well. And then you need salt and a frying pan. And something else, I forgot what.

  - Butter, perhaps?

  Barbare: Yes, it’s delicious with butter, but we have no butter. Oh, you need bread. So, you splash bread into an egg, and then put it on a frying pan. Yummy. Make this to your children!

- I'll make it, thanks for the recipe. So French toasts are your favorite dish?

  Barbare: No, I love ice cream! And cheese.

  - What do you love more - mom or ice cream?

  Barbare: Ice cream, of course! Mom is not tasty, and dad is not tasty either!

  Natia: Wow, she doesn't even hesitate to admit it!

  - And if you had ice cream, would you treat your sisters?

  Barbare: Well, Nitsa can't eat it. Lile, probably, either - she’s too little and her throat will hurt. And I would not treat Niako! She fights and hurts me.

  - What are you dreaming about?

  Barbare: I have a birthday very, very soon, on September 28th, and I want a poofy dress! Like this! And a tablet! Oh, what a beauty I will be!

  -  You are a beauty even now!

  Barbare: I know! But I will be even more beautiful in a poofy dress!

  - You are a wonderful girl, so all your dreams will certainly come true!

– Natia, what is your biggest dream?

  Natia: I dream for my children to eat their fill, so that I do not have to refuse them everything. To have no worries about Nitsa's food! Day and night I think only about this.

This baby can stay hungry!

– Do you believe in the kindness of strangers?

  Natia: Of course, I believe. Otherwise, I would not have addressed you. Seeing our deplorable situation, our friends advised us to write to your Fund. I read your posts on Facebook and realized that there are many kind and helpful people in Georgia who are ready to lend a helping hand to a complete stranger.

  – What do you think, you need the most in your home?

  Natia: My God, I am so embarrassed to ask... God knows, I ask for help only for the sake of my kids. We are experiencing very hard time now, and we will be grateful for any help.

My girls are constantly malnourished, dreaming of toys and sweets. We will be happy to get any help - foodstuffs and clothes for children. And if you help us in purchasing a washing machine, refrigerator, and TV, it will be just wonderful. We need them. We have no place to store food. Imagine how difficult it is to hand wash in cold water in the yard. Look how we live... Our children simply have nothing to sleep on, everything is falling apart, and we really, really need beds. You are my last hope!
