"Don't be afraid, mommy, everything will be fine." – “Don't be afraid, my little girl…” – the mother, exhausted by anxiety, comforts her daughter. Eight-year-old Khatuna has not yet taken her first steps and has not made her parents happy with her first words. There are so many unspoken feelings in her heart, so many steps not taken, non-made friends, non-happening stories, and so many other things that would make her life more joyful. The mother's heart can't take it anymore. The start of Khato's story should begin with the operation, and everything that happened before it will remain as a bad dream.

Pain was added to pain, tears were added to tears. The nights passed one after another, but nothing changed, except that the parents became less and less strong, and got older. They think little of themselves. They need to bring up four children.

Mother of children says: “When I first asked for help, evil people told me such terrible things that I could only cry all night long.” After that, she refrained from asking for help for a long time. She hid sadness and grief in her heart. But things got even worse, and now our help is their only hope. We must prove to them that everything is possible when we are together, we must bring them back their lost faith in people.

«I believe that my Merab understands a lot»

- Zinaida, you have four children, and two of them are seriously ill. What diagnoses do your children have? Tell our friends everything.

Zinaida: I'll start with the diagnosis of Merab. He was born with cerebral ischemia, which caused developmental problems. He often has convulsions. He has been taking medication since birth and now his condition is stable. But cerebral ischemia is a complex disease. There is a very high risk of stroke, boy needs attention and frequent checks.

As for Khato, her situation is particularly difficult. Khato has cerebral palsy, microcephaly, and epilepsy. She can neither move nor speak. Her condition is very serious. She needs round the clock supervision and care. She is wearing diapers, and it is problematic for her to take food. We are in a difficult situation. I also have health problems and it is very difficult for me to take care of children. I have nodular goiter. What can I say? I do not want to talk a lot about my sores. How can it be compared with the state of health of my children? I don't know why these damn diseases have chosen my kids. Why? (Worries that she needs to tell us.)

  - Does anybody help you with taking care of your children?

Zinaida: My husband Merab helps me. But mostly I am with Khato, however, I cannot lift her, and Merab helps me. He bathes her, and changes her clothes, and does everything that is necessary. When she has a seizure, I also get sick and start panicking. Merab has to save both of us. Her seizures are so strong... She is shaking all over - it's scary. Seizures can happen at any second, even while she’s sleeping. If you do not help her in time, she may fall into a coma.  You can't be distracted even for a second.

- So, the father of the family is also pretty busy around the house... Does no one of you work? How do you live?

Zinaida: No one is working now. Would I have stayed at home? But what can you do? My hands and feet are tied. I won't be able to work. My husband is now also unemployed. Maybe there will be at least some work for him after so many people read the post? I hope so. We do not get social allowance. Our only income is Khato's pension of 250 GEL, and she needs this money for diapers and medications. Only one consultation with a doctor for Khato costs 160 GEL. You also need to pay for food, utilities - you need a lot of things. Imagine, I have four children, and each of them needs attention.

Khato's pension is completely spent on her diapers and medications.

- Do you relatives or friends help you?

Zinaida: Nobody helps us. Only my mother - she works as a cleaner at the school. She needs help at her age. I have no friends left. You know…  Nobody needs you when you have nothing.

- It's scary to think about that. With complete lack of money, you may need the help of doctors at any time. Is there such a need right now?

Zinaida: In the case of Merab, there is no need for surgery. He only needs treatment. We take him to the doctor, and they do brain exercises. Sometimes he does everything so right and good that I even forget about his illness. Such moments are rare, but they make me very happy. He looks like a normal boy, but...

Khato’s situation is completely different. (Sighs.) Doctors say her disease is progressing. Medications help temporarily. Khato needs a surgery. But the price for it is unimaginable for us! There is nothing more urgent. We have a roof over our heads. We can do without everything else, just to help our daughter. Our entire family is of the same opinion. Help our girl!

It's very hard for me to see her in this state. (Wipes away tears.) In my dreams, she always stands firmly on her feet and talks. But in reality, it is impossible for her. I have only one dream left, and I will do everything for the sake of my daughter. The only thing I want is to put my girl on her feet, and also for her to speak. Nothing more... I pray for nothing more, Lord. This is my greatest wish.

- Merab, what about you? Are you worried about Khato?

Merab: I'm good, uncle, but Khato is bad. Khato and mom are sick, they need medications and a doctor. I feel sorry for Khato.

- Are you ready to endure without food, to give up everything to help your little sister?”

(Merab looks at me, then nods his head.)

Merab: Khato is very sick.

-You are a very kind and warm boy. Nino, what would you add to your mom's words?

Nino (17-year-old): Just look at Khato, what a beautiful child she is! Look, how much kindness is there in her eyes. Sometimes I feel like she's talking to me with her eyes. She asks me to caress her and play with her. And I can never refuse her. I often think about her future. I don't want for my sister to spend her whole life in a wheelchair. It is very sad. I want her to have a childhood, like others, and I think that the surgery will help her.

Roin (5 years old):I will give Khato my toy and kiss her.

- What a good boy!

Roin: I want her to talk to me, but she keeps silence. And I want her to play tag with me. But she is weak. She needs help.

- How do you help her?

Roin: I bring her a comb - my mother combs her hair. Or I bring a diaper, or a spoon.

Roin: “I can play with a fly swatter. I gave my sister a toy.”

Efforts of any nature tire Khato. But toys make her happy, like any other child
