But there really was a fire. A strong one! They cut off electricity and gas for the entire neighborhood so that firefighters could put out the Karkusashvili family's apartment. Now they are starting life from scratch in a renovated by city hall, but completely empty apartment. Now you have to sleep on the floor, eat standing up like a heron, play without toys. Mom Natia can’t buy anything new, in no way - she left her job to look after the “dangerous” Mari. Dad won't buy anything either - he's in jail now. So, Nikoloz is angry with Mari, at everything together and bludgeons her.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN!
HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
This sweet girl can turn the whole neighborhood upside down.
She burned down our house! Nikoloz points to his sister Mari. We have nothing because of her.
“I didn’t light the house, I lit the newspaper,” Mari snaps back.
“Stupid girl! Our entire house burned down because of your newspaper!”
Nikoloz hits his sister on the arm, and she pinches him hard.
Nikoloz continues despite this:
- Our bed burned down, and the washing machine, and the floor, and the ceiling, toys, and my shoes. We were on TV because of her. And a lot of police came.
- Gossip! - Mari kicks her younger brother in annoyance and goes to another room to cry.

Burnt furniture in the hallway
After the fire, the family was left without the most necessary things.
- Marie, how did you manage to start such a big fire?
Mariam (6-year-old): I lit a newspaper, my fingers burned, and I threw it behind the bed. But then I poured water on it.
Natia, mom: The fire spread to the mattress, and it caught fire from below. And then flared up at once. My mother smelled something burnt, but Marie showed her the extinguished newspaper. Nobody looked under the bed. Children are noisy, grandmother gets tired, they drive her crazy all day long. They burned down the house while I was not at home.
Grandma Natela looks at what else might be used.
- Were you scared, Mari, did you cry?
Mariam: I cried, and Niko cried a lot.
Nikoloz (4-year-old): Because of this stupid one, I ran barefoot down the stairs and was very much afraid. Everything got black and nasty at home. Ugh! (Grunts up.) And it stank.
Nikoloz: "Our beds burned down"
"And the clothes are black and stink of smoke"
Sooty pantry
Mariam: Our neighbors upstairs also caught fire - our fire spread to them. And at the lower neighbors everything got wet - the firefighters watered them. (Smiles).
Grandma Natela: Oh, my God! (Slaps her leg.) She has problems.
One can see fire marks above the door. Grandmother is still in shock and worries about her granddaughter
Natia: My mom did not tell me everything so that I would not get a heart attack on my way home When I reached our neighborhood and was approaching our house, I saw that the road was blocked by the police! There was no light. I got home on shaky legs.
It was impossible to live here, our relatives sheltered us for six months. We have now returned, two days ago, trying to get settled somehow. But there's nothing here. People give us something - blankets, clothes. People from Niko's kindergarten and Mari's school helped us. Our neighbors take to wash our things. Everything that survived fire in the closet smells burnt. They help us, thanks everyone! The Lord does not leave my children without a piece of bread. The church gives us meals.
“We only have holey bedspreads”
"Toasted" chest of drawers
Mariam: But my mom doesn't come late now. I used to wait for her until 12 at night and could not sleep. And dad didn’t pay attention to me either - he’s in prison.
- Where did you work before, Natia?
Natia: At the shawarma shop, I was the cashier. Sometimes I worked for several months without a shift. I left my job. Do you see, what’s happening? My daughter became out of control. I took her to see the doctors. They said she had thought and behavioral disorders. Some moments scare me. While I was earning money, something went wrong. Mari needs a psychologist, therapist, speech therapist. She also has enuresis at night.
- Natia, why did your husband find himself in jail?
Natia: Because of a fight. He has been working hard lately to provide for his family even though he's completely ill! But he got in trouble.
- And how did you live? Have there always been just misfortunes?
Natia: No, of course not. (Weakly smiles.) It never was bad from the very beginning, right? He was 19, I was 15 when we met. We both were naive children. He didn't even drink alcohol. Then over time everything... He's all sick now. What did he do to himself... My mother-in-law showed the form number 100 the other day - he has a lot of diseases. He needs to be operated on his spine, his eyes are sick. My husband needs a lot of medications. Bella, my mother-in-law, spends everything she has on medications. She is also on psychotropic drugs after a stroke. I don't expect any help from there.
Mariam: Bella takes me to my dad.
- How do you go to dad, tell me more?
Mariam: There is a square phone, and you call dad. Although he is very close. He also has a square telephone. And we talk. But you can’t touch dad, he’s behind the window.
- What do you tell him?
Mariam: “Will you get out of there soon?” - I ask him.
- And what does he say?
Mariam: “I’ll be released soon” - he says.
Nikoloz: I also want to go to police with Bella.
Natia: That’s how Nikoloz calls prison.
Nikoloz: I like the policemen's hats, vests, and trousers. I want such clothes too. And a flashing car. I will catch anyone who behaves bad. I'll catch her for fire. (Points to his sister.) My dad will live in the police for so long ... (Shows three fingers.) In three years, he will buy me both a car and chocolate, and everything I ask for.
(Natia sighs.)
“I want a vest and a policeman's hat. I would have caught Marie for fire"
- What do you live on now, Natia?
Natia: On my mother's pension and social allowance - 560 GEL. It's for food. I can't afford anything else. I can't take Mari to a doctor, to a special teacher. One session costs 55 GEL. I have a fear that some other expenses will pop up.
Mariam: And Nikoloz does not eat up all the time and eats mommy’s breasts.
Nikoloz: And you can’t do that, so stay hungry.
Mariam: I'll ask for sausages, khinkali, and a bicycle.
Nikoloz: We must ask for a bed so that we do not sleep on the floor, stupid girl.
Natia: Most of all we need a bed. If there is any chance - a washing machine would be great too - I’ll stop bothering my neighbors. There are even no chairs at home. I just gave up, I was in a very bad mood. But once mom showed me your Fund on the Internet. You do serious work. You are a salvation for unfortunate families.
***
It’s sad when your dad lives in a prison. No child wants this. Mari and Nikoloz are very upset that they can’t hug dad when they want, that he doesn’t buy them beautiful clothes, toys, food. He does not defend them when they need it. Mom Natia is not working now for serious reasons and cannot give her children the same care as before. She really hopes that we will help them in this hard time.
You will understand and feel much more when you meet them in person. To be honest, there will be more sad emotions. Here is the address of the Karkusashvili family just in case you decide to cheer them up and to give your attention to the kids. Kakheti Highway, Building 34B, apartment 60.
If you have a heavy heart because of everyday problems or unresolved issues, as a distraction just see our posts on Facebook, or better call any of our beneficiaries, and all your problems will seem unimportant to you, compared with the problems of those to whom you opened your kind heart and helped in the most difficult moment of their lives.
