Video games are often dismissed as a waste of time – but recent scientific research is challenging that perception. According to TrendWatching, gamers’ brains – particularly those who play action games – process information faster than the brains of non-gamers.
The study involved 28 gamers and 19 non-gamers. Participants were asked to complete visual tasks, such as determining the direction of moving dots on a screen. Gamers consistently performed the tasks faster. They also showed heightened activity in the brain’s dorsal visual stream, the region responsible for decision-making and spatial awareness.
These findings suggest that video games can be more than just entertainment – they can also be a powerful tool for enhancing cognitive skills, particularly in children and teenagers.
