70-year-old Liana Pkhaladze is a deeply unhappy person. Her husband died 32 years ago, and the only son – in 2004. She could be a caring mother for someone of us, dear friends! But she was left it in her old age, alone, without friends, without relatives and without any means for existence. And these damn diseases complicate her life even more. Diabetes, cataracts, hypertension... This is an incomplete list of diseases that afflict the Liana Pkhaladze whose general condition is deteriorating day by day.

She huddles in a tiny one-room house, where in winter it is very cold, and in the summer it is terribly hot. Their living conditions are deplorable. It even hard for her to move around the room. No, not because she can't walk, but because the floor is so decrepit that it could collapse at any moment.

Poverty, starvation, loss of the loved ones, disease, loneliness... All the troubles came together. And there is no clearance further. Liana Pkhaladze repeatedly appealed to the authorities for help, but as she says, nobody pays attention to her. They even suspended her social allowance without explaining the reason for such an act.

Friends, while the authorities come to their senses, it is our duty not to leave this lonely woman alone with her misfortune. She is not so old to give up on everything, although at any age a person deserves a normal life.

We talked to Liana Pkhaladze and asked her to talk about her life and problems:

– Tell me please, what is the state of your health at the moment?

Liana Pkhaladze: I feel very bad, the pressure is constantly high, I began to see badly, my bones ache, I suffer from diabetes, and most of all I am killed by absolute loneliness. The feeling of uselessness is a terrible feeling. God save everyone from going through this! My heart groans from pain and solitude!

– Why did your husband and son die?

 Liana Pkhaladze: The husband died of a heart disease, and the son died of a liver disease. In 1989, my son participated in protests outside the Georgian Parliament building when Soviet troops used poisonous gas to disperse the demonstration. That's when he got sick. I treated and nurtured him, but fate was not favorable to him.

– As you can see, your apartment has poor living conditions…

 Liana Pkhaladze: I would say that the conditions are terrible. The floor is in a disgusting state, I'm afraid to fall through it; the furniture, as you can see, is old and unusable, I have no fridge or washing machine. I do not turn on the electric stove for heating as there is no money to pay for electricity... – And what is your income?

Liana Pkhaladze: Only a pension in the amount of 200 lari. I used to receive a social allowance, but 4 years ago it was suspended. I went to complain, but the reason was not explained, at least I did not understand it. That's how I live on these 200 lari, half hungry and unhappy!

– And you didn't ask the authorities for help? 

Liana Pkhaladze: I did! I can't remember how many times I went to the mayor's office and Gamgeoba. I asked that I was given free glucometers to measure blood sugar. And they answered: "Not allowed. Come to the clinic, and we will measure if for you for free." But can I go to the clinic so often? Can I sit in lines for hours?

– We will certainly write a letter to the authorities, as well as to your majoritary Deputy in order to draw attention to you and to find help, because the duty of each Deputy must to take care of his voters.

Liana Pkhaladze: Thank you very much to your Fund. Your nurses are so helpful. I love these girls. They became like a family to me. I am very grateful to you for taking care of me tirelessly. Let God give you strength and luck!

– What are you dreaming about?

Liana Pkhaladze: I don't want to die. Do you think I stopped dreaming at my age? No way! I want to live and dream to plant a small garden near my house with greens and vegetables. Well, if the Lord decides to take me to Heaven, then it is God's will! That's when I'll be reunited with my deceased son. God rest his soul.
