A large, socially disadvantaged Egikashvili family huddles in a tiny rented house without any amenities. Bare walls, tattered lino on the floor... Their main and real treasure are those four wonderful kids.

Look into their eyes! There you will see the future of our beloved homeland, Georgia ... Friends, we must show our Christian mercy, do everything for their well-being and somehow make their life easier.

- Gvantsa, please, tell me what the main problem of your family at the moment is.

Gvantsa: We live in terrible poverty ... I have four children, and sometimes I don't even know what to feed them. We have no money for food or diapers for our youngest daughter.

Take a look around! We have nothing. Look, where my little ones have to sleep. The house itself is in such a state that it is about to fall apart. But we don't have the money to rent a better home. A refrigerator and a TV set are from the Soviet times, and besides that, our washing machine went out of order! You can imagine how much washing is to be done when there are four little children in the family, and adults as well. My hands are about falling apart ...

- Has your situation always been that dire?

Gvantsa: You know, we always used to live modestly. I knew that my husband was not rich. I got married for great and true love. Leri and I have known each other for almost 10 years. But when the kids were born one after another, it became very difficult, because they needed so many things... We could no longer fit in the house of my husband's parents - it’s cramped there even without us: there are 7 people living there including two small children. We had to rent an apartment, if it can be called that. A room and a kitchen, the toilet is at the end of the garden, and I bathe the children in a plastic wash tub ...

- Could you tell me in detail how you met your husband?

Gvantsa: I was born and raised in Tskhaltubo, and my husband, Leri, had relatives there, so he often came there on a visit. That's how we met. I was in the 8th form then. A few years later we got married. I lost my first child and it was a severe blow. Then I decided that I would have as many children as the Lord would give me ...

- How did you imagine your future when you just started a family?

Gvantsa: I was very young then. I wanted to study in Gori at the Faculty of Informatics. My mother was a computer science teacher, so I chose this profession. All the documents were ready, and Leri and I were going to live in Gori. But then I got pregnant and had to go back to the village, where, as you know, it's hard to make money. My husband is ready to do any work - he even works as a shepherd, but this is very little money - we do not live, but just survive.

– Does anybody help you? Parents or relatives?

Gvantsa: My mother died of cancer 9 years ago, my father used to help us, but now he is unemployed. And my brother is a student, he studies in Tbilisi, and has just some occasional side job. They themselves need help. As for my husband's parents, they are also aged. They help us as much as they can, sometimes bringing potatoes, bread, or pasta...

- Do you believe in the kindness of strangers?

Gvantsa: Of course, otherwise I would not have addressed you. I know that sometimes a complete stranger can lend a helping hand. Georgia is a very small country where everyone is used to supporting each other. I thoroughly follow your Facebook page and every time I get ascertained that this is really so ...

- Did you learn about our Fund from social networks?

Gvantsa: Yes, I even remember the first post that caught my eye - about a single mother and her daughter ... My heart breaks when I read about so many people living in poverty, who are terminally ill and need help. And you really do Godly things, helping so many people, making their lives better. I wrote to you in the hope that you will not remain indifferent to my kids, who are deprived of everything - toys, sweets, new clothes. Most of all, as a mother, I want them to have everything they need ... But what can I do? My husband and I are completely unable to cope alone.

– What do you believe in? In what do you see the salvation?

Gvantsa: Of course, only in Faith. I used to go to church almost every Sunday. But now it's more difficult - having the babies. I try to lead them to take communion whenever possible. And I pray at home all the time - for the health and well-being of my children ... So that everything would be OK with them.

- We are so sorry! Did you address anybody for help? The local government, for instance?

Gvantsa: Oh, sure. We get an allowance of 560 GEL. Unfortunately, we were refused any other benefits ...

- What is this money enough for?  

Gvantsa: Only for the basic things: rent, utility costs, and the cheapest food

– In particular, what do your children eat? What is their everyday diet?

Soups, cereals, pasta. When my husband manages to earn some money, he brings meat and I make a broth.

- Please, tell me more about your children.

Gvantsa: They are stair-steppers. Only the eldest, Giorgi (4-year-old), had a chance to go to the kindergarten. Lika (3-year-old) tries to imitate him in everything, she wants to go to the kindergarten too. She even wants the same toys as Giorgi! Giorgi dreams about a police car and an ambulance car, and Lika, of course, too. (Laughs). Giorgi adores his sisters, especially the youngest, Mariam (1 year old). When I turn on the music, they all dance together, it’s so funny.

-  May I talk to your children, please? Hi, Giorgi! Do you miss the kindergarten?

Giorgi (4-year old): Yes! It’s fun there and there are lots of toys. We have just a few at home.

- What is your favorite toy?

Giorgi:  The bear - it’s soft and fluffy It’s a present, I like it so much!

Lika (3-year-old): I’ve got a favorite bear too! It’s pink and beautiful!

- What toy would you wish to have?

Giorgi: I want to have a police car with police lights and a siren. It’s cool! Mom promised me to buy one when she has the money...

Lika: I want a car with a siren too!

- Why not a doll, Lika?

Lika: Giorgi and I always play together, if we have the same cars, it will be more fun.

- What do Barbare and Mariam dream about?

Barbare (2-year-old): I want a bear ... Gio gives me his bear to play, but I want to have mine, so that it would sleep with me ... And sweets too! Many, many sweets!

Giorgi: We all love sweets! (laughs) Mommy buys them. But not very often.

– Gvantsa, what is your biggest dream?

Gvantsa: I only dream of my kids being fed, dressed and shod. So that I don't have to constantly refuse them and explain that there is no money now, that I will buy that later ... When? I don’t know. I have a cherished dream - to continue my studies. But it is impossible right now. My angels need me so much, they are still so little. But I try not to lose hope for a better future.

– What do you think, you need most in your home?

Gvantsa: We will be grateful for any help! I really need food, diapers. God knows, I ask for help only for the sake of my children ...The thing we need most of all now is a washing machine. Kids are at such age now that you should never leave them unattended. There is no one to look after them, but me. And I'm just knocked off my feet. You can see for yourself that we have nothing at all. Everything here is just junk. The beds are falling apart. The refrigerator and the TV are so old that I am surprised that I can still turn them on ...I’m not used to asking, and I’m extremely embarrassed, but mothers will understand me. When you have no money to buy an extra candy for your child ... It's a terrible feeling. It hurts. That is why I addressed you. I hope that the hearts of your good friends will respond to our sad situation ...
