Give me a lot of books, please…
Gegi (11-year-old): My name is Gegi, I am a future guide! I am already practicing my future profession. I live in Svaneti – in Mestia. Do you know how beautiful Svaneti is?
– And what does our future guide do? Does he introduce the culture and history of this beautiful region to tourists? Come on, tell me, how you work?
Gegi: Well… I don’t ask tourists to pay me, only if they give me something. I wouldn’t take it at all, but my family is experiencing a hard time now. Our house burned down. My mom doesn’t have money to take me to English classes. And the guide needs to speak English. So, my dream is to have a lot of textbooks and literature in English to study it on my own.
– Gegi, where do you usually guide tourists? Do you have any specific route?
Gegi: I show them the towers of the Margiani family and the museum. You know, I tell them everything in a very interesting manner! Everyone is happy. I learned more about Svaneti while working. Tourists ask questions, and I look for new information to know the correct answers to these questions… I also studied the museum well. My dream is to become a guide. I love the history of Georgia – it is very interesting!
– And what else do you dream of besides English textbooks?
Gegi: I want to have good clothes, especially winter ones. I can’t meet tourists poorly dressed, can I? My clothes, books, everything got burned in the fire…
