“I drink hot water as if it were tea.”  The heartbreaking story of 12-year-old Megi will tug at your heartstrings.  This child fears the approaching winter because she only has light clothes. Last year, this poor girl went to school in torn shoes, her feet soaked by snow and rain.

This is 12-year-old Megi. There’s a burning fire in her heart, as though all the world’s troubles have gathered around this little angel. Her 3-year-old brother suffers from severe asthma attacks, and Megi can no longer bear to see her beloved brother tormented by them. 

But that’s not the end of her struggles. Some children at school mock her for wearing old clothes and shoes.  Last winter, she walked around in worn-out shoes all season, with snow and rain soaking her feet. This bright little girl shivered from the cold. 

The most terrifying thing is that this child lives in a crumbling house and sleeps in fear every night. She doesn’t know if morning will come, or if the sun will never rise for her again…

Megi has many dreams. Her tearful green eyes only light up when she talks about her dreams. And when she shared her dreams with the Fund’s correspondent, a spark of hope lit up in her eyes – hope that kind people will finally hear about her desperate situation.

The poor girl drinks boiled water instead of tea.  My God, it’s unimaginable…

Megi (12-year-old): “We studied the Stone Age at school—I live in the same conditions. In the whole village, I’m the only child without even an old TV at home. My biggest dream is to have a TV. New Year’s is coming, and there will be fun programs and holiday shows on TV. I really want to watch them. 

Everyone else at school has a phone.  There’s a school chat where the teachers, parents, and students share important information. My dream is to join that chat. But my mom can’t even buy medication for my sick brother, let alone a phone for me.” (As she said this, Megi sighed so deeply it seemed like her heart might burst. Huge tears rolled down her green eyes, and her voice trembled with bitterness.)

When the Fund’s correspondent visited the Pipia family, Megi was sleeping on a rusty iron bed. The poor girl was trembling even in her sleep, but there wasn’t a single warm blanket in the house. Rainwater was pouring down on her from the ceiling. My God, it was so terrifying to see… so terrifying. 

Winter is coming soon. The poor girl will once again have to walk through the snow in light clothes and torn shoes. But Megi still keeps on dreaming… Yes, this child never stops dreaming and hoping that one day many kind people will learn about her struggles, and then… Who knows, maybe one day Megi’s dreams will start coming true.
