Want to know why this girl feels sad on her birthday? Because she can’t invite guests to celebrate in her crumbling house.
Shorena: “The roof is leaking and could collapse on us at any moment. The windows are broken. I feel awkward to invite my friends. If they see how we live, they might laugh at us. And my mom can’t even afford a cake. What would we serve our guests? We can’t just put pasta on the table… There are seven children in our family, and we survive only on social allowance. My parents have to buy food on credit just so we don’t go hungry.”
