Low-income families
Gio (6 years old): “My little brother is 9 months old, mother’s milk is not enough for him, and he cries all day from hunger. What should we feed him? The only edible thing we have at home is stale bread. Little Nikoloz won’t be able to chew it, he doesn’t have any teeth yet. But mom has no money for anything else.” Mariam: “If someone has the opportunity to shelter us, to give us one room, I will be immensely grateful. Or, perhaps, there will be a kind person who will help with renting an apartment? We live in an emergency building that can collapse at any moment. What will happen to my children? And where will we go?” Just imagine for a moment that such a misfortune happened to you or your loved ones. What would you do? Help this unfortunate woman raise two sons for the future of our country, our beloved Georgia! There is no one to help her. Her father is dead, her mother is disabled, and she herself needs help. If you do not help such needy people as Mariam and her children, then who does?

Large families
Natia: There are a lot of us. My husband, our six children, and I can barely fit in this tiny house. And we have nowhere else to go. When they find out that we have so many children, everyone shrugs us off – as if they see cockroaches. If I lived in another country, they would probably give me a diploma for having 10 children! It’s not easy raising kids for Georgia. No one appreciates us, no one cares. They give us an allowance and they think that’s enough. We don’t even have our own house.

Ill adults
Mariam is having a hard time. She is ill. She is not like others. She can talk, read, write, dream, like her peers, but since her childhood she cannot walk. Can you imagine, friends, how hard it is for her family, living in in complete poverty, to see her suffering? They are so poor that they cannot help her!

Older people living alone
It’s total darkness around her. 89-year-old, lonely Clara cannot open her eyes. She sits by the table and waits for someone to come in and carry her to her bed. She cannot navigate in the darkness without help. She can’t find her bed, which is quite close by, but she doesn’t understand how to get to it. She is lost. She sits and waits.

Ill children
Andria puts his hand into a grater and grates it like a vegetable until scratches with blood appear, then he bites his both hands hard. This closet, where he and his sister are locked up all day, while their mother Tea is at work, infuriates him. Ana watches all day long as her brother sways from side to side and bites his hands. There is a strong smell of urine in the room, because 12-year-old Andria has run out of diapers.

“I believed, I believed and waited for you so much,” the beautiful Rosalinda (7-year-old) greeted me in her ringing voice. “Miracles do not happen … I am 13, and I know that for sure… Or they do happen?” Khatuna (13-year-old) asked me with an expression of wonder, humbly looking at me. My heart ached of the utter hopelessness that I saw there.

“It’s been 12 years that I’ve been fighting for my son’s life; it’s been 12 years that a ‘stone of sadness’ has been weighing on my heart, getting heavier every day…” – So says the mother of little Saba, who has had cerebral palsy, epilepsy and mental retardation since birth.
