I’m a girl who has nothing!
Barbare: I often sit by the window and watch other kids play and have fun. Sometimes I’m not happy at all. In those moments, I dream of having a panduri (note: a musical instrument), and I would play it and sing. I don’t even have any pencils to draw and distract my thoughts from hunger. Do you know how awful it is when your stomach is growling? I think it’s probably nice to be rich and have all the things you dream about. Mom can’t even buy a bed for us. And all of us huddle on one bed.

And I think I told you that I love drawing. And you remembered everything. And now I’m the happiest girl! You brought me so many beautiful pencils! And this panduri is like a ray of light in my world!
