Ten-year-old Narek was born into a family with a tragic history. When his mother was 14, she was trapped under the ruins during the Spitak earthquake and has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. Despite her disability, God performed a miracle and sent her a son as a guardian angel. This boy grew up not only to bring joy to his mother but also to bring pride to his homeland by winning the national junior karate championship. Yes, Narek made everyone proud, but his heart is heavy with sadness. The champion doesn’t know how he’ll endure the long journey from home to the gym this winter—he doesn’t even own a single piece of warm clothing. He only has shoes that are fit for warm, dry days. The poor boy dreams of winter clothes and sturdy boots.

His only new outfit was a gift from his elderly grandmother, who bought it for him with her meager pension. But as the weather grows colder, it’s clear he’ll freeze in this outfit.

Narek is a boy of many talents. He sings beautifully, draws skillfully, and besides being a karate champion, he plays football exceptionally well and has a bright future ahead of him. But unfortunately, his disabled mother can’t afford to buy him a pair of cleats. The boy’s heart aches, yet he tries his best not to let his beloved mother see his pain. Narek opened up to a Chernovetskyi Fund correspondent.

Narek (10 years old): “I dream of becoming a footballer like Lionel Messi. But I don’t have a ball or cleats. My mom can’t even afford to send me to football practice.

The child put his dreams on paper and drew Lionel Messi.

“I’ve also dreamed of having a scooter since I was little, but I’ve never had one. I still dream of a scooter, but I can’t ask my mom for it because she lost her job due to her disability, and they even denied her remote work. We can barely afford the rent, and tomorrow I might end up sleeping on the street. Phones and tablets—every boy my age has them, but I don’t even dare to dream of such things. It’s getting very cold now, and I’m not dreaming of the trendy clothes other boys wear—I just dream of warm clothes. I dream… I dream… but what’s the point? None of my dreams come true.”

A devout boy, Narek reads the holy book and prays every day.

Kind people, Narek’s heart is full of love for God and his homeland. This small child’s heart holds so much kindness, but, sadly, alongside that kindness, despair is growing every day.
