“When my classmates take pictures near the Christmas tree on New Year’s Eve, I don’t stand next to them because my clothes aren’t nice, and I don’t want to ruin their photo.” 10-year-old Milena dreams of wearing a beautiful coat just once.  Kind people, let’s come together and make the first morning of winter magical for this little angel.

This bright-eyed girl is 10-year-old Milena. She was only 8 years old when she lost her beloved father, and since then, her beautiful dark eyes have held only tears and pain. Milena dreams… she dreams… but only when she’s alone.  Do you think she dreams of something expensive? No! This child has just one wish—to live a life that isn’t like that of stray animals freezing in the winter cold. Milena’s house has no hot water. During the summer, she would leave a bucket of water outside so the sun could warm it. But winter is coming, and the sun can no longer heat the earth, so the poor girl washes herself with icy water.

Milena dreams of warm clothes, boots, and a pretty coat. The kind of coat her classmates’ parents buy them at the start of winter. Milena, however, has never worn a new or beautiful coat, not even once. Her boots are so worn out that she may not even make it to school—they could fall apart on the way.  My God, how does this little girl endure so much hardship? Milena has two sisters: 11-year-old Angelina, who is seriously ill, and 2.5-year-old Anahit. For these girls, their father was the greatest hope in the world.  But life’s cruel injustice took their beloved dad away from them forever.

Milena (10 years old): “I dream of being like other children. If I had even one set of warm, new clothes, I would be happy all winter. Right now, I’m hoping it won’t snow. Last year, when my friends were sledding in the snow, I watched from the window, so sad that I couldn’t join them. I still dream of having high boots that keep the snow out when I walk to school. You know the kind I dream of? Boots with fur inside that keep your feet warm. When my classmates take group pictures on New Year’s Eve, I don’t join them because my clothes aren’t as nice as theirs. It makes my heart ache… it hurts so much.”

Kind people, let’s unite and give this little angel a magical morning on the first day of winter. Kindness can work wonders!
