Preparations for New Year’s celebrations have already begun in kindergartens. Three-year-old Saba will wear old, tattered clothes to the party. This poor little boy watches his peers playing in the yard through the window, unable to understand why he doesn’t have warm clothes like they do.

A sick child drinks hot water, imagining it’s sweetened with sugar. In his mind, he sees a hot, delicious khachapuri waiting for him on the table. But instead, there’s only a piece of dry bread, rough and scratchy in his throat.

Instead of a warm sweater, Saba wears an old, torn T-shirt that looks worse than clothes thrown away at the dump. 

Thankfully, at three years old, he doesn’t fully understand the harshness of his situation. He can’t yet ask the “important men” in the country why he has nothing, while so many children around him have balls and even bicycles. 

If there were a global contest for the most beautiful child, Saba would win first place and earn lots of money. But here in Georgia, what awaits him if he has to walk to kindergarten in the cold wearing just a T-shirt?

Let us pray, friends, for Saba’s future. Let’s take better care of children in need. Maybe, this New Year, Saba’s long-dreamed-of gifts will finally come true: a toy car, a ball, and… so many kind uncles and aunties surrounding him, stroking his hair, looking into his beautiful Georgian eyes, and asking him over and over, “What can we do to make you the happiest boy in the world, Saba?”

Look into the child’s eyes—how much sadness they hold. And yet, he is only three years old! Look at his wrinkled, old T-shirt. Does any child deserve this? Saba dreams of wearing shirts like the ones his peers wear in kindergarten.

Saba is growing up without a father, and his eyes tell that story. Children who grow up without a father often don’t even dare to dream. The New Year is approaching, and kindergartens are already preparing for the celebration. But Saba will stand out among the other children—he won’t be wearing beautiful clothes. Kind-hearted people, let’s come together once again and make Saba’s unspoken dreams come true.
