Elene, 5 years old: “I have an old doll and a puppy, but no food, so I share my little piece of bread with my puppy! And I also have a very, very sick brother. He can barely see, but my mom doesn’t even have enough money to feed me and my puppy… That’s how we live.”

Elene, 5 years old: “You know, Auntie, I don’t have dolls, but I do have a puppy.  I play with him. Do you happen to have any dog food? Just a little bit? My puppy is very hungry. I share my piece of bread with him! My mom doesn’t have money for food or toys. She’s raising me and my brother all by herself. Dad doesn’t live with us and doesn’t help. I feel so bad for my mom. I don’t want her to cry, so I don’t ask her to buy me a doll.

This is my brother, Saba. He has problems with his vision; he can barely see. He needs surgery. The money is more important for him.  Please help him! I can’t bear to see him suffer! When I see him like that, I feel so bad that I faint and have seizures. Mom says I can’t get too upset. But I’ll stop worrying only when my brother can see the world as clearly as I can!”

Friends, they say that whatever you wish for on the New Year will surely come true! Elene wrote to Santa, asking for new eyes for her brother and a stroller with a doll in diapers. She even knows how to change diapers—what a clever little girl! God is giving us the chance to bring joy to this sweet girl!
