Ten-year-old Tika had a joyful dream on New Year’s Eve. She saw Grandfather Frost and the Snow Maiden, and lots and lots of gifts and candies.  She told the journalist that she was so happy she woke up, but when she saw no one there, she started crying: “Maybe Santa didn’t come because he saw me through the window in my torn dress… Maybe he’ll come another time!”

On New Year’s Eve, Tika’s only meal was fried pasta.

Ten-year-old Tika welcomed the New Year hungry and cold in a rented house. Despite everything, she was still happy. Do you know why? Because she didn’t have to spend New Year’s night out on the street. Friends, Tika lives in a rented house with her two sick brothers. Her poor mother can no longer manage to gather the money for rent.

On New Year’s night, this little angel wrote a letter to Grandfather Frost about her dreams. But sadly, on New Year’s morning, she didn’t find a single gift she had wished for all year. What can a child do in this situation? Go back to school after the holidays in the same old clothes? Oh! While all her classmates show up in bright, beautiful outfits?

Tika (10 years old): “I’m the poorest child in my class. But I still hold on to hope that one day my dreams will come true. I dream with all my heart of having warm boots and a cozy winter coat. My biggest dream is to have a phone. I’m probably the only child in school who doesn’t have one. Do you think I want a phone just for fun? – No. When I miss school because I’m sick, so much important information is shared in the class chat that would help me catch up on lessons.” As Tika talked about her dreams, tears welled up in her eyes. She grew shy in front of the Fund’s correspondent and lowered her head.

Every day, with a holy candle in her hand, Tika prays. This wise little girl knows the great power of prayer. Now, it’s time for her to see that her prayers can be answered. Kind people, it’s up to you whether Tika’s dreams come true or if she returns to school on the first day of the year in tears once again.
