Look at this little angel, at the sadness in her kind eyes. The youngest member of a large, low-income family dreams of a “princess dress.” Elene’s greatest wish – her seemingly impossible dream – is a pink dress. But all she has is faded, old clothing.

Elene (5 years old): “At kindergarten, my classmates wear beautiful dresses. I want to wear pretty dresses too, but my mom can’t buy them for me. I would be a princess in a pink dress… but where is it? A pink dress is only for other children. For me, there are only old clothes.

Look at my sock – how torn it is. The poor child wears socks like this. Does Elene deserve this? Does any child deserve this?

Elene: I love drawing, but I don’t have a coloring book or colored pencils. My biggest dream is to have a doll and a toy kitchen. In my little kitchen, I would cook all the meals I love but never get to eat at home. I love meat dishes… But at home, we only have fried potatoes and pasta.”
