I have neither medications, nor toys

Gio Lomidze (9 years old): “I have epilepsy, and my biggest wish is to always have the medications I need. If I miss even one dose, my head hurts unbearably. I don’t have any toys at all. Just imagine how sad it is. I would love to have some toy cars. You know, the kind where the windows and doors open? I’d like to start a collection of them. All my friends have bicycles, but I don’t. I would ride around the village, maybe even go to school on it. But my biggest dream is to have a phone, so I can call my mom from school. I’d download lots of games and have so much fun.”

For my birthday, Mom and I will ask the store to give us a cake on credit! They won’t refuse a birthday boy, will they?

My birthday is coming up soon, but Mom doesn’t have money for a cake. We spent everything on my medication – I have epilepsy. If I miss even one dose, I have terrible seizures. It’s better to stay hungry than to be without medication – that I know for sure.

But we’re not upset! We’ll ask the store for the cake on credit. There’s a kind woman working there – she won’t refuse a birthday boy for sure! I want the cake to be BMW-themed because I really love cars. Also, I’ve never blown out candles on a cake before, and I want to try! I need nine candles because I’m turning nine. And at the moment I blow them out, I’ll make a wish. Please, I really hope someone will give me a phone and a bike! It would be so wonderful if my wish comes true for my birthday! I would be the happiest boy in the world!

Once, my friends didn’t have a cake for their birthday. Mom and I bought one using my disability pension. I felt sorry for the birthday boy – it’s so unfair. Every child should have a piece of cake on their birthday.
