I cried a lot, holding onto my mom tightly, grabbing her hands, and begging her to stay! Through tears, I shouted: 'Mom, mommy, don't leave!!! Because without you, I'll die...' But she didn't even look at me, didn't even hug me goodbye, and left.

"Mom betrayed me and dad. She left me with a very sick father, didn't even hug me, didn't hold me close when she left forever!”

“So, it's just me and Dad now. We've been living alone for a year. - says Mirian. Mom calls sometimes, but I can't talk to her; tears start flowing immediately when I hear her voice, she can’t hear me!”

Mother is the warmest word in every language around the world! In the Fund, we've witnessed much sorrow and encountered hundreds of Georgian mothers, just like these, who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their very, very sick children. Here they are! Georgia's best mothers! Hats off to them, and our heartfelt sympathy!!!

In our Fund, we've seen  mothers who carry in their arms their adult disabled children, who have grown in body but remain infants in spirit. These mothers have become so intertwined with their children that their bodies have contorted, adjusting to the shape of their children's bodies...

Mother Khatuna has been carrying Mtvarisa for 30 years.

This man, barely able to walk, goes to work for the sake of his only son.

Giorgi (a seriously ill father who needs spine surgery): We don't like to talk about it. One year has passed, but it's still hard for both of us. Mirian is deeply affected. He doesn't tell me anything, but I see it... Sometimes he gets sad, sometimes his eyes tear up. He's at an age now when his soul is not ready for such betrayals.

Giorgi: "Mirian doesn't tell me anything... He takes care of me, doesn't want to upset me. But I notice: sometimes he gets sad, sometimes his eyes get wet..."

Mirian: But I have my dad, he's everything to me now! He does his best to keep me happy. He found some little puppies all alone on the street and brought them home to me. Maybe their mom abandoned them too, and now they'll live with us.

- Mirian, you're so wise for your age. I bet you're a straight-A student at school, aren't you?!

Mirian: Yes, I love studying. I also do judo, they don't charge me there, they say I'm talented. I also do judo, they don't charge me there, they say I'm talented. But my uniform is all worn out and too small for me now. I can barely squeeze into it. And I don't have any sports shoes. Dad even started working to buy me a new uniform, but we haven't been able to save up yet.

'My uniform is worn out and too small for me. And dad doesn't have the money to buy me a new one.'

"It's wonderful when a child cuddles up to a loving heart!   That's when they themselves grow up to be loving too..."

- Giorgi, are you serious? You're working? But you can barely move!

Giorgi: I have cerebral palsy.I've been suffering since childhood. My legs have always hurt, and I can barely walk. But that doesn't give me the right to sit idle. I'm ready to do anything for my son! The allowance and my disability pension are enough for nothing. Just enough for bread. One month ago, they cut off our gas supply for non-payment. Now we are freezing.  We get sick in turns from the cold - either me or my son! So I started working on a social program, cleaning up the village park. Sometimes I'll fix a bench, sometimes a trash can. It's hard, it's tough, but I can't sit and watch my son go hungry and freeze. He doesn't deserve this. But I can't give him a better life. I always tell him that the only thing he should do is to study well. And I help him as much as I can!

"I do everything around the house: wash dishes, sweep, clean... I can even fry potatoes." I just wish dad was always with me, forever and ever!!!

- Do you want to go to your mother?

Mirian: No way! I'm not going anywhere! I'll never leave Dad. He will die without me. You can't leave people. Especially those who love you.

"My dad and I do everything together, even get sick together."

- Mirian, you reason like a true grown-up man! You're just a wonderful guy! I love you! And now, tell us, how can we help you?

Giorgi: If you help us with heating, we'd be grateful. We can't afford to pay for the utilities. We just wrap up in jackets and blankets. And we've been sick for several weeks now.

"There isn't a single whole thing in our house..."

"I'll never leave you, Dad. Never!”

Mirian: We lay in bed for a whole week, we couldn’t even venture out, it was so cold. Then I got sick, and Dad took care of me, gave me hot tea to drink. And then Dad got sick, and I took care of him. That's how we got through the cold. Now I'm starting to feel better, but Dad is still coughing. And he doesn't buy medicine for himself.

- What else can we do to make your life easier?

Giorgi: We don't have beds - we sleep on one, that's falling apart. It's so uncomfortable. We also need kitchen cabinets. And Mirian needs a sports uniform and sneakers, warm shoes, and a jacket.

– Mirian, what do you dream of? Tell us about a dream you've never told anyone, not even your dad!

Mirian: Well, I feel awkward talking about it. I've been dreaming about one thing all the time. It's not a phone or a tablet... I want an electric scooter. So, I can ride to school and to the store. And I also dream about having a bike. And having a phone would be nice, so I could call Mari. She's the girl who went abroad. We'd chat after school. But mostly, I just want my dad's legs not to hurt too much and for him to live for a long, long time. I'd also say I want my mom to come back, but that only happens in fairy tales. She called me on New Year's, said she misses me and loves me. But when you miss and love someone, you don't abandon your children, right? Am I right?

* * *

Throughout our lives, we often face the cruel hand of fate. But the story of a 10-year-old boy abandoned by his mother, left with his disabled father, is a true tragedy, depicting how one action can become a heavy burden on a young soul.

Unfortunately, Mirian's suffering extends beyond mere emotional turmoil. His existence is a daily battle for survival, where bread, warmth, and clothing aren't always guaranteed.  His father, Giorgi, does his utmost to cope... But what can he do? Living in Georgia is challenging even for the able-bodied!

This story should serve as a wake-up call. We all must come together to provide assistance in this difficult situation. We must demonstrate that while someone may abandon you in your darkest hour, there are always compassionate souls ready to support, embrace, and provide care!

If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Kvareli Municipality, village Akhalsopeli.
