Scientists create artificial blood compatible with all blood types

Researchers in Japan have developed a universal blood substitute that is compatible with any blood type. According to the developers, the artificial blood is produced by extracting hemoglobin from expired donor blood and encapsulating it in a special protective shell. The result is a stable and virus-free red blood cell alternative, reports TrendWatching.

One of the key advantages of the technology is its shelf life – up to two years at room temperature – making it especially valuable in emergency situations and disaster zones where refrigeration is unavailable.

This innovation could revolutionize transfusion medicine, significantly simplifying the logistics of blood storage and transport while expanding access to emergency medical care.
