A Chinese man with no arms has donated over $500,000 in 8 years.
Shi Xiaohua from Jiangsu Province lost both his arms in an accident when he was six years old. Since then, he has learned to eat, dress, work on a computer, and use a mobile phone with his feet, as well as to practice calligraphy by holding a brush in his teeth. He has become a well-known calligrapher, artist, and city deputy.
In the past, Shi Xiaohua had thoughts of ending his life, but remembering his parents’ care and love, he decided to study and learn a skill. He found a calligrapher and began taking lessons.
Through his perseverance and hard work, Shi Xiaohua has achieved remarkable success in calligraphy and in the art world. To support people with disabilities, he founded an ensemble and tours across the country giving performances.
After the Sichuan earthquake in 2008, Shi Xiaohua went to the affected area, where he performed and made donations. Since then, he has often provided financial assistance to poor families and people with disabilities. Over the past eight years, he has donated more than 500,000 dollars. He has also met with national leaders who expressed deep appreciation for his work.
Shi Xiaohua does not like to talk to journalists about his hardships. According to him, without the care and help of kind people, he would not have achieved what he has. Therefore, he intends to continue helping people with disabilities so that they can have a life as bright as his own.
