Microplastics in Arteries: Dangerous Risk to Heart
Recent studies show that microplastics and nanoplastics can accumulate in arterial plaque and significantly increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
People who have plastic particles — polyethylene or PVC — in their arterial plaques have a ~4.5-fold increased risk of serious cardiovascular events over several years compared to those without such particles.
This finding suggests that plastic particle contamination is another factor that may be worth considering in heart disease prevention.
