In the 21st century in Georgia, much like in times long past, some children have to struggle for their lives and a piece of bread, as if they were savages in the jungles of Africa. Today, our heroes are a large family with seven children, ranging from infants to teenagers, who go hungry and are compelled to live in an arbitrarily occupied building without windows, doors, or basic amenities.

Friends of the Fund, today we are so happy, and we want to share this happiness with you. Four-year-old Mate, who couldn’t stand on his feet and whose mother couldn’t afford the surgery due to poverty, is now walking. How did this happen? It’s all thanks to your immense kindness, dear people. Over 13,000 lari was raised for the child’s surgery abroad. Mate Markoidze was reborn thanks to you, faithful friends of the Fund.

8-year-old Beka has a severe congenital heart defect. Georgian doctors are not daring to perform surgery, as they say there is a high risk of a fatal outcome! They are giving an extremely important advice to the poor single mom of three: “Prevent him from risks”. I wonder, would they also give the same advice to their own child in a similar situation? They say they sent the test to Germany and Turkey… And they received the same response from there – saying that the risk is too great! But we, friends of the Fund, do not believe such advice! Can anyone prevent an 8-year-old child from playing with his brothers and friends?! He is just a child!!!

Inside the dilapidated house, where the walls crumble with age and the windows are covered with cellophane, live children suffering from hunger and despair. They cry out, pleading for help, but it’s as if they don’t exist, as their words do not reach the “mighty of this world.” Tamaz is only 3 years old, Giorgi is 5. He suffers from a treacherous disease – epilepsy, often frightening his parents and siblings with seizures. Barbare is 8-year-old. Her ultimate dream is to have one doll and soup. The poor girl hasn’t even tasted anything else besides soup.

For three months now, Ketevan and her children have been sifting through ashes, hoping to find even a spoon or a plate that survived the fire, but alas, the fire consumed everything! In February 2023, a single spark left the Maziashvili family homeless, adding more problems to their already chaotic lives. Six people were left on the streets. All that remains from their once bitter life are charred walls and ashes…

“You know how bad it is when hunger grips your stomach! We’re always hungry, and we live very poorly. And Mom doesn’t have the money to buy us even one candy to share. We only buy bread. Bread for lunch, bread before bed…soon we’ll start looking like loaves ourselves,” little Andria giggles, not realizing there’s nothing funny about his words. And he wonders why Mom starts crying at such a funny joke…but what else can a desperate mother do when she can’t feed her children? When they ask God to turn a piece of bread into something tasty? “You can do that, right?” Andria looks naively at the sky and shows his bread to God. “Turn my bread into meat!”
