“My name is Saba. I’m very sick. I crawl on my knees to get around – but one day, I’ll stand on my own two feet. I really want to live… and to be happy.
When I go to school, I crawl part of the way on my knees. It hurts, but if I had kneepads, it wouldn’t be so painful. The worst part is… my mom has no money at all.
Please help me get some nice clothes, so the other boys and girls won’t laugh at me. And I promise – I’ll study really hard. Of course, I’d love to have a tablet, a phone, and all the things the other kids have for school. I’m really a good boy, I promise! I’m six years old… Everyone says I’m a sweet child, but I don’t even have clothes to wear to school.”
Eyes filled with sadness, hopelessness, and pain.
That’s six-year-old Saba. He can’t walk. This poor boy is almost paralyzed from the waist down. And yet, he’s remarkably bright for his age. Most importantly, Saba doesn’t envy the kids who have toys and nice clothes – things he’s never had. Yes, despite everything life has taken from him, this child’s heart is still full of kindness.
Saba (6-year-old): “This toy car is broken. The wheels don’t even turn. I dream of having a remote-controlled car – but I don’t even have a ball. My mom can’t afford one. I’m too shy to ask other kids to play with me… They can run, and I can’t even walk. If I had a ball and a toy car, I’d play with my sister in the yard.”
Saba: “I’m in first grade. I dream of going to school in nice clothes and shoes like the other kids. But what I want most of all is a tablet. Since I can’t walk or play, I’d watch games and cartoons on my own tablet – it would make me so happy.”
