This is 11-year-old Mariam. For the past two years, she has been fighting a severe form of anemia – with no success. Her dream is to go to school wearing beautiful clothes.

Dear Lord, please let it not be cancer! We will immediately cover the costs for a full medical examination to screen for all possible diseases! Don’t be afraid, Mariam! All of Georgia will stand by you – and will gift you the phone and the pink dress you’ve been dreaming of. But before we make arrangements at the hospital and carry out a thorough medical check-up, the Fund asks for one small thing: Let’s make Mariam’s dream come true and give her that pink dress she longs for!

Without proper nutrition beneficial for maintaining hemoglobin, Mariam’s condition could become life-threatening. We are truly hopeful that the Minister of Health of Georgia, upon reading this post, will allocate funds to ensure Mariam gets the healthy diet she desperately needs – because this child comes from a family living in extreme poverty. It was only after we – together with you, our friends – looked into the living conditions of this seriously ill girl that any attention was paid to her situation. Until then, not a single government agency had even checked whether she was still alive.

Yes… Despite her illness, Mariam still dreams of a pink dress. Friends, just imagine how brightly Mariam would shine in that dress. Right now, her eyes are dim and lifeless.

Mariam (11-year-old): I go to school in old clothes. And I don’t have any spring shoes at all. It’s already warm, but I’m still wearing my winter boots. My mom can barely afford food for me and my sister – how could I ever ask her to buy me shoes? (Tears welled up in Mariam’s eyes as she said these words.)

She doesn’t even have toys. A bicycle would make her so happy. She has never held a mobile phone in her hands, but dreams of the day she’ll call her friends and say: “Hello, it’s Mariam. Save this number – it’s mine.”
