The orphaned boy shared his deep emotional pain with the Fund’s correspondent. On July 25, he will turn 8 years old. But there will be no loving mother by his side… and no cake baked by her hands. God, how heartbreaking is the fate of a child without a mother!

Boris: When my mom was alive, she used to bake pastries for my birthday and put candles on them, and I would blow them out. Now I place candles next to her – to give her light. It’s dark and scary where she is. She came to me in a dream and spoke to me.

Boris: I miss my mom so much… and those pastries. I want my mom back, but she’s gone. She’s already missed two of my birthdays. Birthdays without a mom just aren’t real birthdays. They’re not happy at all.

Boris: Grandma thinks I don’t notice how she cries. She hides and talks to my mom. ‘Ekaterina, my daughter,’ she says, ‘Boby is asking for glowing roller skates for his birthday, and an inflatable pool, and a remote-controlled car. Help your little ones… bless us. Let help come from somewhere. I’ve already spent my pension.’

Boris: I’m not expecting a gift from Grandma. She doesn’t have the money. But I really, really want an inflatable pool. “I’ll get into it and pretend I’m at the seaside. I’ll call my brother Maga and my sister Shorena to join me. We’re not going anywhere for vacation. All the other kids are going somewhere – but we’re not. So I’ll “go on vacation” in the pool, okay?

My mom would definitely have bought me a remote-control car – the kind that transforms into a robot. And a kids’ tablet that doesn’t hurt your eyes. But my dad… he would’ve just hit me, taken my piggy bank, and gone out drinking with his friends. Good thing he’s out of our lives now.
