“Auntie, Daddy promised to buy me a little quad bike for my birthday. But instead of a present, before my birthday they brought a shroud for Daddy into our home.” Dear friends of the Fund, will you really allow the dream of little Gabriel, who lost his father, to be buried together with his beloved dad?

Gabriel will never forget his last birthday. His father died just before the day. And the celebration turned into pain. All the things he and his dad had talked about and dreamed of dissolved into tears and grief – guests, a big family celebration, a quad bike as a gift.

His father, once warm and alive, became just a portrait on the table. And the quad bike became a reminder of death. Everything connected with a birthday reminded Gabriel of loss. Is this what his kind father would have wanted – the one whose portrait now looks back at Gabriel, while his soul grieves in heaven, watching his orphaned family struggle in need? If his father’s life hadn’t been cut short by lung disease, he surely would have fulfilled all of Gabriel’s wishes.

Now Gabriel strokes and kisses his father’s portrait, as if seeking reassurance, and through tears admits that this year he longs to celebrate his birthday.

Gabriel: I want a laptop and a little quad bike. I want to see my friends and classmates at my birthday party. I’d be happy if I got a cake with a PUBG picture on it. I’d be even happier if I could go to wrestling classes. (It’s a paid activity – social allowance won’t cover it.) I would love to have a nice jacket and shoes.

The tender, wounded soul of this child longs for warmth, love, and a miracle!

Friends of the Fund, last year – thanks to your kindness – an orphan’s hopeless dream came true: Gabriel received a soft bed, a bicycle, and other gifts. But the quad bike has remained an unfulfilled wish.

Sadly, we cannot bring Gabriel’s father back to life.
