Keanu Reeves – Charity as a Life Principle
Actor Keanu Reeves, often admired for his kind deeds, donated most of his earnings from the first Matrix film to charity. Astonishingly, 70% of his fees were directed to a leukemia research fund.
For the first Matrix (1999), Reeves earned $10 million upfront and $35 million after the film’s release.
Keanu was inspired to donate such a large sum by his personal experience—his younger sister, Kim, was diagnosed with the disease in 1991 and battled it for 10 years.
Keanu supported his sister until she went into remission. During her lengthy illness, he sold his home to live closer to her and postponed his involvement in The Matrix. He also spent $5 million on her treatment.
