Mariam has a severe form of cerebral palsy. She’s eight years old, and for eight years, the family has suffered alongside her. She doesn’t talk, can’t walk, and is confined to a wheelchair. Medea: “Since birth, she hasn’t been able to see or hear. She cried constantly, day and night. We’ve raised her through suffering.  Many people advised us to abandon the sick child, but we never even considered doing so. As long as my husband and I are alive, we will be by our daughter’s side.” Mariam has such severe convulsions that her mother fears she might break her bones. Can you imagine the pain and suffering this little girl endures? Not every adult could bear it!

Medea (33-year-old): “Help me! I don’t know what’s happening to my daughter! She closes her eyes and then can’t open them. Tears stream down her face, she screams in fear, and no one can calm her down.

As long as my husband and I are alive, we will be by our daughter’s side.”

Mariam has such severe convulsions that her mother fears she might break her bones. Can you imagine the pain and suffering this little girl endures? Not every adult could bear it!

Medea: “If Mariam doesn’t take her sedatives, she can’t sleep. She needs medication to improve brain circulation, but I can’t afford to buy them. It breaks my heart that we haven’t been able to take her to a doctor for over five years! Mariam’s teeth hurt, but we have no money for a dentist. And she needs diapers too! We sold everything we had to pay for her treatment, and now we survive only on her disability pension.”

Medea: “Mariam was born healthy. The doctors said she had jaundice and placed her in an incubator. But a few days later, her bilirubin levels spiked. Her brain was damaged. At that moment, she urgently needed surgery! Due to the doctors’ negligence, my child became disabled.”

Medea: “The fact that she survived is a true miracle. Mariam was on a ventilator. She fought for her life, fought against death, and a miracle happened. We called a priest to give her communion, and she started to get better. They told me she is under God’s protection because children like her usually don’t survive.”

Medea: “We often have to call an ambulance because Mariam struggles to breathe; she’s suffocating. The house is damp, the floor has rotted, and there’s a terrible smell.  It’s dangerous for her to stay here! But we don’t have the means to fix the house.”

Medea: “My husband used to work as a tractor driver, but we had to sell the tractor to take Mariam to France. We hoped that they would pay attention to us there and treat our daughter. But when the money ran out, we had no choice but to return. Now, our little girl doesn’t even have her own bed. She sleeps with us, and my husband and I take turns watching over her. Please help! Mariam needs medical exams and medication. We would be grateful for every lari!”
