In one family, there are three children. They have a rare genetic disease. Help stop this insidious disease!

calendar September 13, 2023

A genetic disease, from which there is no salvation, has engulfed the life of every member of this family. Torment, unbearable suffering, and death – that’s their life script. Three ‘children’ in the family suffer from a terrible disease that takes their lives! The eldest, 29-year-old Zakro, has not gotten out of bed for years, 22-year-old Anna can still move, but with great difficulty. She sits in a chair all day long calmly, and then suddenly cries out… starts hitting herself on the head. Her mother can’t understand what she sees there. Just one year ago, the mother thought that the disease would spare her youngest daughter, but one year ago, the girl started having back pain, and it became difficult for her to walk. Tamara started getting tired quickly. What can a poor mother do? How much longer can her heart endure watching the suffering of her children?

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

Inga: I was only 16 years old when I gave birth to Zakro!  I was still a child myself and already held a baby in my arms! Do you know how happy I was! I thought we would grow up together, like siblings… and how I would become a young grandmother! But not a single one of my dreams was destined to come true.

“When Zakro was diagnosed, I didn’t believe that it would be so serious. I couldn’t believe there would be no salvation for him. He was such a sweet child”

– When did you realize that something was wrong with Zakro?

Inga: He couldn’t walk… couldn’t talk. I kept thinking it was a developmental delay. I carried him in my arms until he was three. And then Zakro started taking his first steps. He called me ‘mom.’ Do you know how smart he was? He used to recite poems and sing.  I even sent him to school. I thought he would become more sociable with his peers. But my little son attended school for just a few days, and that was the end of it. The principal called me and said they were making fun of him, mocking him. The kids teased him, and my poor son cried.

– Poor boy. Didn’t you consider sending him to a special school?

Inga: We didn’t have passage money. We live in a village, and there was no way we could take him there even a few times a week. We spent all our resources while trying to figure out what was wrong with him.  Twenty years ago, getting genetic tests wasn’t that simple, and they cost a fortune. There were no government programs back then; you had to pay for everything.  In our country, only the wealthy can afford to be sick; everyone else is condemned to death.  And if more than one person in the family is ill, it’s just a catastrophe!

“When we sent him to school, he became a laughingstock. They mocked him, and I couldn’t bear it”

– You have three children, did the disease spare any of them?

Inga: I hoped, prayed, and dreamed that the disease wouldn’t touch Tamara – my youngest daughter. But for several years now, I’ve noticed terrible changes. It started the same way for Zakro and Anna. Zakro has the most severe form of the disease. He has been lying for 8 years. He doesn’t talk, but he lets us know if something hurts him.  He lies there for whole days, staring at one point, shaking his head, and making terrible sounds.  I don’t know how I haven’t gone insane after all these years of watching my children suffer.

Anna’s auditory nerve was damaged by doctors in the maternity hospital. She doesn’t talk. Sometimes she sits calmly, but at other times, she can harm herself

– How does Anna behave?

Inga: She has the most severe form of the disease.  Until the age of 5, she couldn’t walk or sit. Her hearing was damaged during childbirth, so she’s also deaf.  While Zakro could talk in his early years, Anna has never uttered a word in her life!  Now she can walk, but she needs constant supervision. Sometimes she sits quietly, but then something triggers her, and she starts screaming, hitting herself on the head. She can even injure her face until it bleeds.

When Zakro sees his mom, he’s happy; he makes sounds of joy.  Despite that, in a second, he can burst into tears from pain

– How did you dare to have a third child?

Inga: Oh! You can’t even imagine what I had to go through. It’s like you already know that the child is doomed, but you hope, ‘What if things go well?’ Everyone insisted that I should have an abortion. But I couldn’t bring myself to end the life growing inside me. They also detected this disease in Tamara, but hers is a milder form.  She even goes to school and studies well. She helps me around the house, but she gets tired very quickly. Everything was fine, but one year ago, her spine started curving, and it became difficult for her to walk. It got worse when she fell off her bike and injured her face. She had a concussion, and her teeth were broken. Before that, she used to even feed her brother and sister, but now she’s really worried.  She can’t do it anymore. She’s become withdrawn and uncommunicative. Do you know what she said once to me? ‘I know I’ll end up like Zakro and Anna.  I know the agony in which I’ll die.’  Those words came as a blow to me…

“Zakro can’t explain what hurts him. And only a mom can tell from the look on his face how bad her son feels.

– My God!  She understands everything!  She sees everything… how do you manage to cope with all of this?

Inga: I don’t know. My husband is also disabled; his spine is damaged, and he can’t work.  A few years ago, he had a heart attack, and just one year ago, he had a stroke and nearly died. We’re simply living in hell! I can’t even leave the house for a few minutes.  I’ve become a prisoner of our ‘family happiness.’ Since I was 16, I have had no childhood or youth, and I can already imagine what my old age will be like. But I still have to live to see it.   I don’t know how much more I can endure.

Little Tamara also started having health problems. And her mother had hoped so much that this devilish disease would spare her

– Inga, what do you live on? There are four severely ill people in your family, you need a lot of medications – even a wealthy family would find it difficult…

Inga: We receive social allowance – 500 lari, and the children receive pensions, 340 lari for each child, and my husband has a pension of 175 lari. If you add it all up, it seems like a substantial amount, but we’ve accumulated so much debt at the bank that we have to make monthly payments of 750 lari, and this has been going on for three years. I asked them to reduce the interest, that I can’t afford to pay such a sum – but it was like talking to a brick wall!  No one wants to listen. And we had to borrow money for the children – for doctors, for treatment, for medication. And also we had to build a ramp to take Zakro outside.   Lord! We rely on you alone!  Don’t abandon us!”

In order to take the severely ill Zakro out for air once in a while, they had to take out a loan from the bank and build a ramp.  And now the family is barely able to pay this unsustainable debt

– What are you asking the Lord for?

Inga: The only thing I’m asking Him for now is that this hellish disease destroys Tamara less than the older ones.  I pray for a chance to snatch her from the hands of the devil, but I have no means to examine and treat her. You are my last hope! Perhaps God heard my prayers and sent you! We need 300 lari per month just for medication and diapers.    But what about food? How much more debt can we take on? How much can we burden kind-hearted people?

It’s hard to imagine how much pain and suffering this unfortunate family has endured. Death, suffering, and incurable diseases are the harsh realities of their lives. The mother watches her children’s suffering 24 hours a day, knowing that if she’s not vigilant, she may lose them.  The dire outcome could come at any moment. Death lurks and waits!  We can stop this vicious cycle set in motion by the devil. We can break the cycle of diseases!  If we unite and pray for health and help in any way we can!

If you are willing to visit this family and help them in person, here is their address: Mtskheta Municipality, village Patara Kanda.

Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!

We are sure that all together we will manage to save them from imminent death.
