These children never think of leaving their MOTHERLAND – proud Georgia! Why do they have to suffer like this…
In the Zanadze family, six little angels are suffering from severe hunger! When I asked the children, none of them could remember the last time they had a proper meal. Their breakfast, lunch, and dinner consist of stale bread.
Thank you, thank you from all of Georgia – kind neighbors from the village! Despite being poor themselves, they always share food with the hungry little ones. Know that it is people like you who uphold the great Georgian traditions. May God bless you with health and happiness, and to all kind people as well! And our deepest gratitude from the Fund!

The children search for clothes in the dump. Who threw them away? Occupiers or locals – it doesn’t matter to them. They just want to survive! At any cost!
Older brother Nikoloz dresses his younger brother in pants he found at the dump. Lord, what if these clothes are contaminated? Or have parasites on them?
Oh, dear… How hard it is to write these words… But the photos speak louder than words. Yes, you understood correctly, dear readers. The children search the dump for clothes and toys. God, how unfair it is that things others throw away make these angels happy. But there is sorrow in this ‘happiness.’ In this supposed ‘happiness’ lies a great tragedy. What did these little angels do wrong to deserve a life that sends them to scavenge in the dump?
Today is a ‘celebration’ for the little ones – they found a dirty and ugly stuffed bear in the dump and are running home to play with it! It’s as if they visited a toy store!!! Can such a thing really happen in our time? Really?!!!!!!!!!!!
A little child without toys probably feels like a bird in a cage. No child deserves to never experience the joy of having a new toy. No child deserves a life where they take home such an old and dirty bear, like the one you see in the photo.
Saba is 8 years old. Look at those tearful eyes. How much sadness and hurt they hold.
He took my hand and told me – “Can you imagine, recently, my mom and I went to the village store, and my mom kindly asked the lady cashier to give her some groceries on credit. But… But…
The child couldn’t finish the sentence (reporter) because he was choking on his tears from the hurt! His proud Georgian blood flared as he recounted how the greedy and cruel lady hurt his beloved mom and refused to give her food. During our conversation, I took this picture, dear reader. Years will pass, Georgia will surely change, words may lose their meaning, but this image – it is the only thing that will remain in history forever…
On this terrible bed sleep these little angels.
Despite being hungry and poor themselves, the children took in a pregnant cat and share their food with her. Such kindness…
This is how the brothers sleep in close quarters. I hope these angels are at least happy in their sleep.
How much this piece of bread means to a hungry child. But a well-fed person cannot understand this…
This is how the little men work.
In Europe, this kind of child labor is considered slavery! The children are not ashamed of work. They dig, loosen the soil, and water the plants. They work under the scorching sun without even a cap to protect them from the sun. Despite being weakened by hunger, the children still find strength to work and never complain to their mother. ‘Genatsvale’ little ones, we kiss your hands, on which you have working calluses. These little hands should be holding toys or riding a bicycle to the village river like other children. But you work hard so that you can have a piece of bread.
At the end of the day, tired and hungry, they sit on a haystack.
This rusty car, found in the dump, is the only toy for the child. Tornike is a dreamer and all the child’s dreams are about meat… Horrible!
This old TV from the last century broke down 3 years ago. The children cannot even watch cartoons.
The children’s mother, 42-year-old Tea. The woman has aged prematurely from such a life.
Tea (42 years old) – I cannot work, how can I leave the little children alone? My poor husband has been looking for work for a long time but cannot find anything. We live in a very bad area, the so-called occupation line. A few meters from us is the occupiers’ checkpoint. Sometimes gunshots can be heard, and the children get scared. I fear every day when the children go out to play that they might cross the dividing line, and God knows what will happen… Which of these misfortunes to endure? To endure poverty or the fear that a stray bullet fired by the occupiers will hit my children. In winter, we cannot even go to the forest for firewood because there is already an occupiers’ checkpoint on that mountain.
Children on the occupation line. Living in fear…
Tea: Fear… fear… and unbearable poverty. How long will my children endure hunger, cold, and poverty? One of my children recently died. I buried him. If my family hadn’t been so poor, maybe he would have survived. He was only a week old, an angel ‘flew’ to heaven. He took the other half of my heart…
The seventh child in the Zanadze family. He was 7 days old when he died.
Dear readers, these little angels know that ‘fairy tales have happy endings. However, they also know that fairy tales exist only in colorful books. Kind people, just imagine for a second the transformation that will happen to these children when they see that good characters and heroes exist not only in fairy tales but also in real life. Friends of the Fund, let’s become the kind characters in a fairy tale for these children, at least for one day… they need this the most right now. And we can do it. We have managed to do it many times, and I am sure we can do it many more times. Because bringing joy to needy children is the kindest deed. Kindness is the axis around which the world turns.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Kareli Municipality, village Knolevi
