More Than a Tragedy!!! In order to save the life of 5-year-old Dati, his 33-year-old single mother sold their home. The child is about to be discharged from a hospital in Turkey at any moment. But when he returns home, there will be no rehabilitation – only the possibility of sleeping on the street. Can we really allow such cruelty?

This is 5-year-old Dati Tsikoridze – a child whose childhood was stolen by a cruel illness at just 8 months old.

Dati has been diagnosed with a rare and severe condition – Hashimoto’s syndrome.

This dangerous disease severely disrupts normal development of the entire body. It also causes extreme muscle weakness, which may lead to disability. 

Today, 5-year-old Dati is physically the size of a 3-year-old child. But his suffering does not end there. He has also been diagnosed with another serious condition—hypospadias. 

This is a rare congenital abnormality, which unfortunately has affected our little Dati, who has already lived in constant suffering since infancy.

And as if that were not enough, the child also suffers from a severe form of epilepsy.

He is currently being treated in a Turkish clinic, where he has already undergone a second surgery. 

Funding from the Ministry of Health amounted to only $2,500. But the boy still urgently needs a third operation. What can a single mother do when she has nothing left to sell?

33-year-old Mariam Tsikoridze sold her home some time ago to save her son’s life. And now, due to lack of funds, she has even lost the rented accommodation she once had.

Soon, the Turkish clinic will discharge the boy. Before the third surgery, he urgently needs a course of rehabilitation. But returning to Georgia could become a real nightmare, because this single mother and her seriously ill child have no money for rehabilitation – and no place at all to stay. 

Anyone who can, please help find affordable housing for this little boy and his mother to rent. The Fund will cover the costs! And together we will figure out what to do next.

What is a single mother to do now? 

She is completely alone in this cruel world. 

Due to a medical error, Mariam herself has undergone five major surgeries and still requires treatment. But she does not even buy medication for herself, because she knows that every single coin may be crucial to saving her son’s life.

It would be a great shame for Georgia if, far from home, a Georgian mother were praying that her child not be discharged from hospital – because back home, the recently operated child has nowhere to live.

While I, a journalist from the Chernovetskyi Fund, was speaking with Mariam on video, I suddenly heard Dati’s voice:

“Auntie, I miss my toys. They must miss me too. Auntie, can you go into my room and tell Superman that I will be back soon?” These words chilled me to the core.

How could this innocent child know that he no longer has a home, no room of his own – and that his beloved Superman may no longer be waiting for him to return?

Friends, now is the time for us to become “Supermen” for this extraordinary boy.

We must do everything we can so that when Dati returns home, there is at least a small place where his single mother can care for him and treat his post-operative wounds.

And let us not forget: without full rehabilitation, even the progress achieved through successful surgery could be lost. And then the final, decisive surgery may no longer be possible.
There is no money left for it—and no hope that the Ministry will be able to step in and resolve the situation.

And yet this is their last chance.
