The heart of Jaba – a devoted and loving father of three – is failing. It is functioning at only 20%. If we don’t act in time, three little boys may lose their loving father.

Andria, 9: “Daddy, please don’t die…” Every evening, nine-year-old Andria hugs his father as tightly as he can, afraid that by morning he may no longer have the chance.

Andria, 9: “My dad has a very sick heart. My brothers and I pray every day that he will get better. Please help him get the treatment he needs. Please save our daddy.”

Doctors say that 48-year-old Jaba’s heart is now functioning at only 20 percent. 

Not long ago, he was a strong man – a driver who worked hard to provide for his family. Today, he becomes breathless after taking just a few steps around the room.

Because of severe heart failure, fluid keeps building up around his lungs. Doctors have to drain it again and again so that Jaba can simply… breathe.

Jaba, 48 years old: “I don’t want to die. I have three sons and a three-year-old granddaughter. I want so badly to be with them. My children need their father, and my granddaughter needs her grandfather. Lord, give me strength. Please help me survive!” 

His middle son had to leave university because the family could no longer afford the tuition. Now they have only one dream: that their father will live. 

Doctors have forbidden Jaba from working.

He is not allowed to lift even two kilograms.

But a man who has spent his entire life providing for his family doesn’t know how to sit idle.

He places a chair in the middle of the garden and, sitting down, picks currants for his sons. Because he can no longer stand for long. 

That is all he can do today – a man who, not so long ago, could lift any one of his children into his arms. 

According to his doctors, the severe damage to his heart was caused by toxic goiter.

Jaba urgently needs to undergo medical evaluation in Turkey, which will cost approximately $5,000.

After that, doctors plan to implant a mechanical heart support device. Only then will his heart be strong enough to withstand surgery to remove his thyroid gland. Only after that will doctors know whether further treatment – including a possible heart transplant – will be possible.

Jaba, 48: “Today, my life depends on the kindness of others.”

His 74-year-old mother, Tsiala, spent her life teaching young children.

She still continues to work because otherwise the family would have nothing to live on.

“My only son is dying… And I cannot save him. My teacher’s salary isn’t enough even to pay for his medication. Please… save my son. Save these children’s father.”

Today, we can do what medicine alone cannot.

We can give three little boys the greatest gift of all – their father.
