For two-month-old Sandro, tomorrow morning may never come. The baby could leave this world without ever truly seeing the sunlight.

At birth, doctors discovered that both of Sandro’s heart valves were affected by a serious congenital condition. 

After being discharged from the hospital, the little boy was brought not to a safe home, but to a dilapidated shack that could collapse at any moment.

This cradle from the 1980s now serves as a bed for two-month-old Sandro.

When I, a journalist for the Chernovetskyi Fund, traveled from Tbilisi to Chakvi to visit the Tsetskhladze family, I thought I must have been given the wrong address. I could not have imagined that the wooden shack standing before me could be the only shelter for a large family.

And then two little angels stepped out of the half-ruined structure. Their faces bore the marks of hunger, and their eyes were filled with sadness far beyond their years.

I began searching my bag for a chocolate bar to give the children. And at that very moment, a three-year-old boy held out a piece of bread to me.

“Auntie, are you hungry? Take that.”

Hearing those words from a hungry child was heartbreaking.

This is four-year-old Sesili. What more can be written when her eyes say more than words ever could?

Instead of playing games, Sesili and little Sani spend their time rocking their newborn brother’s cradle. Meanwhile, their mother rarely leaves the side of the children’s beloved grandmother, watching over her every breath.

47-year-old Natela has spent 27 years in real hell – more than half her life. She was only 20 years old when she tried to break up a fight. At that moment, she was struck on the head with a stone.

Yes, in this cruel world, such things do happen: you extend a helping hand, and in return you receive harm.

So… this dignified woman became a victim of her own kindness. The man responsible was sentenced to 7 years in prison. 

But 20-year-old Natela was sentenced to a lifetime of suffering.

Unfortunately, after that incident, the woman developed a severe form of epilepsy. Due to fear and constant stress, her heart was also affected, and later it was discovered that tumor processes were developing in her body.

Without an oxygen machine, her heart can stop at any moment. The time has come to return the temporarily borrowed oxygen device. Without it, this dignified woman would not survive. Natela is pleading for help with her eyes. 

There is probably no country in the world where the love between grandparents and grandchildren is as deep as in Georgia.

Three-year-old Sani cried after witnessing his grandmother’s epileptic seizure. However, what I, a journalist of the Fund, saw with my own eyes was far worse than a seizure alone.

(Of course, we immediately called an ambulance.)

“Grandma is dying. Grandma-aa, don’t die! Grandma-aa!” — the little boy cried at the top of his voice.

Sesili and Sani watch the sky from the balcony of their shack. Every cloud that appears in the sky terrifies the children – they fear that bad weather will destroy their fragile home. The shack in which the heart of two-month-old Sandro is beating. 

Local authorities allocated 27,000 GEL to the Tsetskhladze family. With these funds, the family managed to build two small rooms. But unfortunately, the money was only enough for the foundation and the purchase of blocks. 

Dear friends, we must manage to complete the roof, install the windows and doors, and lay the floors – before a terrible tragedy happens.

Each night spent in this shack means that tomorrow morning may never come for them.

Let us not allow the sun to set forever and prematurely for three little angels. Otherwise, the pangs of conscience may forever darken the light that has been granted to us by God.
