In Zaira’s small room, silence speaks louder than words.

At 86, Zaira no longer argues with pain – she has simply learned how to rise each morning alongside it.

Every step is a struggle. Her knee aches as though it remembers every hardship of her long life more clearly than memory itself. Her walking stick has become her only support: slow steps, careful movements, no sudden motion allowed.

She lives completely alone. In a tiny rented room where dampness has replaced comfort, and the cold walls know her better than the people around her. There is no refrigerator. No washing machine. Only a television, a gas stove, and a life in which even the most basic necessities have become unaffordable luxuries.

Her income is: 495 lari pension and 60 lari in social allowance. Sometimes neighbors bring her food – a quiet reminder that she has not been entirely forgotten.

Her hearing is no longer what it once was. But she still recognizes human kindness without words.

Now doctors have prescribed physiotherapy – a chance to ease her pain and help her regain at least a little movement, a little freedom in her steps.

But even this small chance requires help.

Sometimes old age is not about years.

Sometimes it means waking up every day and having to prove that you still deserve relief from suffering. 

Every elderly person deserves not mere survival, but a dignified, peaceful, and humane life. Yet in Georgia, many elderly people are left to live in loneliness and poverty. So please, friends, do not pass by Grandma Zaira with indifference.
