Mirian was 35 years old when, on that fateful evening, a car struck him as he stood on the sidewalk. The driver lost control, and the blood of an innocent young man was spilled. Mirian suffered injuries that were deemed incompatible with life. His head injuries were so severe that doctors gave him less than a one percent chance of survival. He had multiple skull fractures, and you can probably imagine what that means. Mirian spent three months in a coma. The first surgery was performed in Moscow, but his condition only worsened afterward. Following the unsuccessful surgery, Mirian was transported to Georgia by a mobile resuscitation vehicle. In total, the poor young man underwent four brain surgeries. And throughout all this time, he felt nothing, perceived nothing, and was barely distinguishable from the dead—except that he was breathing. But Mirian’s heroic mother refused to give up. This poor woman achieved the impossible for her son. Indeed, after the fourth brain surgery, with God’s help, Mirian emerged from his critical condition, and for the first time, he had a real chance of survival.

As soon as Khatia saw the Fund’s correspondent at her door, she couldn’t hold back her tears and cried out: “I want to get out of bed! Please, help me! Help me!  I will pray for you on my knees every day!” Dear friends, you need to understand—Khatia has been bedridden for over a year, unable to leave her home. Her elderly parents don’t have the strength to lift her and transfer her into a wheelchair. The family’s expenses have skyrocketed: daily care for a bedridden person, prevention of bedsores, diapers, pads, ointments… It’s a situation impossible to manage without outside help.

To save this young man – who miraculously survived a terrible car accident – people from all across Georgia came together, raising over 64,000 GEL. Grandma Lamara: “I want to keep living and enjoying life now that I feel a little better.”. Grandma Lamara: “My dear, look how I’m lying – like a queen! This remote-controlled bed is a true miracle for my old bones. I’ve lived long enough to finally have a comfortable bed! It takes care of me all by itself – it sits me up, lays me down, even lifts my legs. I wish happiness, health, and long life to everyone who saved me from suffering!”. Grandma Lamara: “This bed is a miracle for my old bones. I feel like a queen lying here!”. “It takes such good care of me—sitting me up, laying me down, lifting my legs.”.  “Mom loves matsoni with cottage cheese in a cup,” – Vakhtang, Lamara’s son says. “And a sandwich with boiled condensed milk. I’m about to give her a real feast! Here you are, Mom, enjoy! Look, I’ve filled the whole fridge with dairy products, plus cheeses, sausages, eggs, and canned meat. The Chernovetskyi Fund has some truly amazing friends – amazing! You are saving Georgian families from poverty!”

Raul was only 20 days old when a high fever caused him to have severe seizures. There was no doctor in the village, and by the time they got him to the district center he got paralyzed. The devastating diagnosis was cerebral palsy (CP). His parents were shocked – they hadn’t yet recovered from a horrific tragedy: their firstborn daughter, just 1 year and 8 months old, had died of diphtheria. Imagine how hard it was for them to accept their son’s condition! For 26 years, Raul has lived with constant pain. His left leg is so twisted it can’t be straightened. Raul’s spine is severely curved, which has deformed his internal organs. Even breathing is painful for him. He cannot go without painkillers and sedatives. He’s been in a wheelchair since childhood. It has replaced his legs, as he cannot take even a few steps on his own.

Nini was only two years old when her mother, Olga, became paralyzed. After a stroke, Olga lost the use of her entire right side.  She couldn’t walk, take care of herself, or even speak. This brave young girl has taken on the care of her mother entirely by herself. She feeds her, bathes her, and carries her—literally. Despite everything, Nini is thriving. She’s an excellent student and even finds time to dance. Strong and responsible, this incredible girl refuses to give up, especially when it comes to her mom. Nini looks after her mother with the help of her grandmother. Every day, she monitors her condition, helps her exercise on at-home equipment, and gives her massages. But it’s not enough. Olga has a real chance to walk again – maybe with crutches or a cane, but still. And she needs ongoing rehabilitation under the guidance of professionals. Unfortunately, the cost of treatment is far beyond what this family can afford. Let’s help Olga achieve her dream of walking again!
