The weight of my head could break my spine, and I could die!

calendar June 13, 2023

Nani had to endure many hurtful words throughout her years. The pain caused by them hurts her stronger than physical pain. “Ugly,” “crooked”… she can’t even remember them all. Now she is a strong 65-year-old woman. She is no longer afraid of hurtful words, but her wounds inflicted by sharp words still haven’t healed.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

“Words hurt more than a knife”

Nani had to endure many hurtful words throughout her years. The pain caused by them hurts her stronger than physical pain. “Ugly,” “crooked”… she can’t even remember them all. Now she is a strong 65-year-old woman.  She is no longer afraid of hurtful words, but her wounds inflicted by sharp words still haven’t healed.

“I give myself injections just to alleviate the pain for a while”

Our Fund contacted a medical organization in Turkey, Index Medikal, and we are waiting for an answer regarding the cost of the surgery! Friends, together we have an opportunity to prove to these scoundrels who have insulted this deserving woman all these years that she is beautiful and not old! And has the right to life and joy!

– Nani, what’s bothering you the most at the moment?

Nani: I wouldn’t dare to bother you if it weren’t for my condition, which worsens every day.  Look at me, have you ever seen anything like this? My neck doesn’t hold, my muscles can’t support my head.  My spine is curved, it’s difficult for me to breathe, my throat is deformed, I have frequent vomiting, I struggle to breathe. I can barely find a comfortable position to somehow rest from the pain, but even that doesn’t always work.  Sometimes even strong painkillers don’t help. I can’t get out of bed… and I don’t always have the means to buy medication.

“A weak person can die from insults and humiliations, while a strong person continues to live”

– How do you manage to cope alone?

Nani: A lonely person must do it!  I can still get out of bed, I can take care of myself, but what I fear the most is becoming helpless, not being able to reach the bathroom… It’s better to be dead than confined to a bed.  For lonely people, that’s the worst thing that can happen. At least now I can make myself some tea. I manage to cook food. I manage to do so that dirt doesn’t “devour” me. I even find a way to mop the floor while sitting… however getting up afterwards is very hard. But I don’t want to live like a pig!

“I don’t even enjoy watching TV… I sit by the window, look out, and think about how my life could have turned out if I were healthy”

– When was your illness diagnosed?

Nani: It was back in school. My neck started hurting, and it was difficult for me to keep it straight.  My parents took me to countless doctors in Georgia, and then they took me to Moscow.  There, I was operated on, and it postponed my illness for several years, but it later attacked me with new strength. It was very tough during my time at the university. I couldn’t sit for long, I could not take part in all the youthful gatherings and outings… I knew I was different from them, and it hurt.  But despite that, the years of studying, both in school and at the university, were the happiest! And now, is this really life? Maybe someone would say, “She’s old, she’s lived her life, she should be ashamed to ask for help.” But I’m only 65 years old, my peers are taking care of their grandchildren, going to theaters, living a full life. And I’m deprived of all that.

Even making and drinking tea is difficult for Nani

“I know everything about my illness… I read a lot. It’s a pity that there’s no internet, so I have to make do with old books”

– Why did you address our Fund?

Nani: I hesitated for a long time, but then I realized, I have nothing to be ashamed of. It’s not my fault that I’m in this situation.  It was not me to sign this sentence. I’m not a thief or a drug addict. I’m just a sick, lonely woman.  And I want to live. In my situation, a person who doesn’t have the willpower and love of life that I do would probably have put his hands on himself a long time ago. But not me! I will live. With my example, I want to inspire all those who are ashamed of their illnesses, who hide in their rooms, afraid that someone will say something about it. You should know one thing! They are showing their weakness.  They are afraid of anything that is not like them! They don’t love God, they don’t follow His words.  Because Christ Himself embraced the lepers and taught us to do the same.

“Find the strength to live and trust in God”

– Tell us about your needs.

Nani: I have only two requests – to go to Turkey for treatment. They say, doctors there work wonders. Maybe I can live without pain? I’ve been through so much in my life. I even wore a brace that supported my neck, but it dug into me, rubbing against my chest and throat, tearing my skin. I simply can’t describe that pain. I dream of having tea with bread and butter… I dream of sleeping in a comfortable bed, not in this rundown one… I dream of having internet access and a tablet so that I can read and learn about new treatment technologies for my condition… I dream of having a vacuum cleaner… Oh God, stop me, I was so embarrassed, and now you’ve made me open up like this…

* * *

What does God want from us? To feed the hungry, clothe the barefoot, warm those who are freezing, and help those whom we do not know and expect nothing in return. Nani is a revelation to me! She is an example of how a strong spirit and faith in the Lord can work miracles. Despite everything she has endured, she has not lost hope but has become stronger.  We must listen to her words.

She doesn’t ask for much. She needs a bed, a tablet with internet access, a vacuum cleaner, food, and a life-saving operation.
