Oh God, those eyes…
A four-year-old boy with piercing blue eyes begged me to help him write a letter to Santa Claus. Once, his older brother had promised to send his letter—but never did. “On New Year’s Eve, I waited for presents from Santa. I even asked my big brother to write to him… But maybe Santa never read the letter,” Tornike told us, as tears welled up in his sea-colored eyes.
— Where did you send the letter? Let’s write it together now – everything you wanted to say last New Year’s.
Tornike (4-year-old): “I dream of having a bicycle. All the other kids have one – except me. I feel shy asking them to let me ride theirs. I also really want a toy car with a remote control. My dad dreams of having a combine harvester to work in the fields, but he can’t afford one. So, if I had a remote-control car, I’d let my dad borrow it – and he could drive it out to the fields.”
Little Tornike doesn’t yet understand why dreams cost money. He believes that wishes come true for kids who behave well and help their parents.
Little Tornike also told our foundation’s reporter what was making him sad: “Auntie, I never upset my mom. Other kids my age misbehave, but they still have toys. My dreams don’t come true. Why is that?” God, how hard it was to find an answer to that question.

Tornike: “Auntie, can I tell you one more wish? I wear old clothes, and the girls don’t like me. I want new jeans, a T-shirt, and blue sneakers.”
Tornike’s tearful eyes lit up when our foundation’s reporter promised to share his wishes with kind people. Dear friends of the Fund, let’s not let little Tornike down! For a child, nothing is more heartbreaking than losing hope.

“Mama, you don’t have to run after me anymore – I’m riding all by myself!” Little Tornike and his brothers are having an awesome summer on their bikes. Thank you to the kind friends of the Fund!
Let’s smile, my friends! It’s because of all of you that little Tornike is filled with happiness! His smile is meant just for you!

Mama Zhuzha and Papa Guram have their hands full today! All three of their boys – Tornike, Luka, and Lazare – want to learn how to ride a bike. And all because the kind friends of the Fund sent them not one, but three bikes at once!
First, Mama Zhuzha takes her youngest little chick – 4-year-old Tornike – for a ride. What a great mom she is! Wherever Tornike rides down the street, Mama runs right behind him – making sure he doesn’t fall into a ditch or crash into a tree.

Tornike loved his first riding lesson and proudly tells his “instructor mom”: That’s it – don’t run after me anymore, I can do it myself now!

His bright blue eyes sparkle with new ideas. Now Tornike has decided to become a delivery boy: Luka, Lazare! Don’t eat your chips and muffins yet- you have to place an order, and I’ll deliver it on my bike! Then he switches careers – now he’s a builder: I’ve brought the bricks – open the gate, Lazare!
Mama Zhuza and Papa Guram run themselves ragged – chasing after Luka, then Lazare! May their days always be filled with happy chores like these.

But we know that’s not the case. Today, Mama and Papa can laugh freely, like children. But in just a week, their young faces will become worried again. Because the family has very little.
They live in someone else’s home. It’s not their yard, not their street. Nothing in this house belongs to them – not even the old broken-down furniture, not even the gas bottle in the kitchen. Here’s what the family needs when they eventually have to leave this borrowed home:
1. Food
2. Clothes for the kids
3. A new gas stove
4. A large wardrobe
5. A new kitchen cabinet
6. A table and chairs
We will stand by this big, loving family – through both sorrow and joy. Be blessed, friends!
