Four-year-old Lazare dreams of at least just looking at all the delicious-smelling food – and maybe taking a tiny, tiny bite! And… of quietly walking into a big toy store just to look at the coolest toys and hold them for a moment. Because this little boy has nothing. Nothing at all. He still doesn’t understand why his friends have toys – or where their parents get the money for them. And his mom… she has nothing. He’s never asked for anything. And asking his mom? No way – she’d start crying right away. He feels sorry for her. “She’s so good… she loves me so much and kisses me! What about your mom? Is she nice? You look kind of sad!” And with his huge greenish eyes, he looked right into my soul… As if he felt sorry for me. Because deep down, he’s sure – there’s no one better or kinder in the world than his own mom.
Lazare (4-year-old): “I keep asking my mom for a bicycle, but she never buys it. She says she doesn’t have money… and then she quietly cries so I won’t see. ‘Don’t cry, Mommy. I’ll wait!’
His family lives on just 320 GEL a month – a tiny social allowance for his mom and him. It’s barely enough to survive, let alone buy toys.
Lazare: “And I really, really want a big toy car! I’d show it to all my friends first thing – and I’d let them play with it too. I don’t mind! They always share their toys with me. Mom teaches that you should be kind.
