Back to School Soon! All children in Georgia are waiting with such excitement for this festive day – the school bell, new friends… But little Barbare Skhiladze feels ashamed to show up in an old dress that cost only two lari. But she’s a beautiful girl! And she worries they might not even let her into school without a backpack, notebooks, and pencils – all the things our own children and grandchildren carry with them on this celebration of life.

Barbare (7-year-old): “My heart is breaking…”

Barbare (7-year-old): “Auntie, school starts soon, but I’m not ready. I don’t have a backpack, or a pencil case, or new pretty clothes. Mommy doesn’t even have money for baby food for my little brother. I don’t know what to do. And dressed like this, I’m not allowed into any store.”

Little Barbare stood in front of me, her big eyes full of hope. Friends, this is a call to each of us: help make this angel’s simple but very important wishes come true! At our Fund, we want Barbare to have the chance to learn and grow, and for her struggling mother not to feel the fear of being unable to feed her children.

A rotting roof that could collapse at any moment, holes in the walls, a leaking ceiling, a complete lack of even the most basic conditions for normal life – this is the reality where little Barbare lives.

She dreams of joining an art class. But her family simply can’t afford a professional teacher. And the girl has no paints, no sketchbooks. Shyly, she confessed to our reporter that she dreams of drawing on a tablet – but her parents are so poor, they couldn’t save up for one even in a whole year.
