One-year-old Gaga cries from fear. Something terrible has happened: A rotten wall of a house collapsed with a roar and almost buried him and his little sister under the rubble. The girl miraculously survived – she managed to run away! Only two steps separated the children from death. Can you imagine what kind of tragedy could have happened?

This is the scary corridor where little children walk as if it were a minefield. A trip to the toilet, which is at the other end of the building, can end tragically.  

Nino (57 years old): “Our family is officially listed as homeless in Kutaisi. For 13 years now, we have been living on “bird rights” in an abandoned building of a former art school. Want to know how we got here? We couldn’t pay the rent and occupied empty rooms. For four years, we literally survived without electricity and water. And instead of a toilet, we used a bucket. Every year, we appeal to the local authorities to provide us with social housing, but in vain.”

The worst thing is that children suffer here! They breathe air poisoned by mold. Huge gray rats and snakes have filled the house.  

Barbara (7 years old): “I cannot even go out and play because there are a lot of snakes there and I am afraid that I will not notice them while playing and I will step on them. Auntie, I am a big girl now and I know that people can die from snake venom. But my brother is still little and does not know that. We do not leave him alone even for a second. I cannot even sleep at night because I am so scared because we live in an abandoned house. Snakes can get in through the cracks in the walls. Auntie, I do not want to stay here. Please tell people to take us away from here! I do not want to die!”

 When it rains, it pours at home just as much as it does outside

The unfortunate mother of many children does not even have money for baby food, so she feeds the boy a mixture of corn flour. This is how you can “fool” the little stomach for a short time. The family lives on social benefits. The mother cannot work because she is looking after a one-year-old child. The father takes on any job to bring home an extra lari for his children.

Anna (38 years old): “Please tell all of Georgia about us. Let everyone know that one needy family with many children lives in ruins. We want the authorities to pay attention to us and give us housing. We have nowhere else to go…”

This is a kitchen, if you can call it that. There is no gas here, they have to cook food on a cylinder at their own risk.

Birds sense the aura of kind people and build their nests right next to them. These chicks are so lucky to have a home. Barbara and Gaga also want to have a home and a normal childhood, but…  

Nino: “We can be kicked out of here at any moment. Because the building is in disrepair and is collapsing. And where will we go with small children? What I fear most is that the little ones will be left on the street!”

Good people, you probably understand how important your help is for this decent, kind family. Who knows, maybe we will even be able to perform a miracle and raise money to buy a small house. If all of Georgia unites and each of us donates an amount that will be enough to buy a cup of coffee, Gaga and his sister Barbara will be able to live in humane conditions.
